Assistant Laboratory Technician

Job Description

The Quality Control Lab Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the laboratory's testing procedures. This position assists in the preparation of materials for testing and supports certified professionals in various laboratory tests. Responsibilities include the receipt and preparation of samples, refrigerated and frozen storage/archive of samples, retrieval and reconciliation of samples for additional testing, and preparation of buffer materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of materials for testing.

  • Aid certified professionals in performing laboratory tests.

  • Receive and prepare samples using front-end automation.

  • Store and archive samples in refrigerated and frozen conditions.

  • Retrieve and reconcile samples from the archive for additional testing.

  • Prepare buffer materials.

  • Receive specimens and some supplies.

  • Process and record information from collection centers.

  • Handle and track donor samples from receipt to final testing.

  • Dispose of samples properly into biohazard containers after testing.

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.

  • Use the company's computerized inventory management system to locate, track, and determine the testing status of samples.

  • Handle positive samples as required.

  • Monitor inventory levels for laboratory supplies and notify the supervisor of inventory needs.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Basic computer skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Laboratory experience in production line work.

Work Environment

The work environment is a warehouse setting within a donor processing/manufacturing facility. The position offers a set shift with no 'on call' or STAT labs, providing a standard daily operating rhythm. First-day orientation typically takes place from 10am to 12pm. There are two positions available for the 3rd shift (10:30 PM - 7 AM): one scheduled from Sunday to Thursday, and one from Monday to Friday. This role offers the opportunity to be trained in the medical field as an entry-level candidate with a bachelor's degree and no additional certifications. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.63 - $18.63
