Description
The Applied Research Test Technology Division in Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico is looking for candidates for the position of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and High Explosive (CBRNE) staff scientist to perform various laboratory and field-testing assignments for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) at Kirtland Airforce Base. The candidate will develop and support a wide range of R&D projects focused on new sensing, data acquisition, and analysis technologies and applications to support CBRNE testing. The scientist is expected to support developing new R&D technology and application development while also marketing and developing new contracts in the test range and test support technology space for a wide range of customers (government and commercial partners). Experience with complex data sets, developing data collection systems, and communicating the results desired. Candidate will be leading small teams of highly skilled professional through various R&D activities. Strong drive to learn new technologies encouraged.

Position Responsibilities:
Lead Small teams to support the design, planning, and budgeting of CB testing programs, processes, and systems to evaluate the functionality and integrity of sensing and data acquisition systems.
Develop short- and long-range R&D program goals and strategy focused on new sensing, data acquisition, and data analysis technologies and applications.
Regularly present new concepts and solutions in sensing technology for a wide range of customer needs.
Work with program managers and other cross functional teams, leveraging a wide range of expertise to lead technology selection and instrumentation strategy development.
Lead and direct the technology development portion of the instrumentation team.
Collaborate internally and externally to develop new projects for customers, developing new relationships that lead to follow-on contracts, expanding the overall impact and growing the instrumentation R&D portion of the business.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
2 + years of applicable experience in Physics, Chemistry or Electrical Engineering
Experience with wide variety of laboratory instrumentation, sensing techniques, and field deployment of sensing technology, and developing data acquisition systems
Experience with optical sensors such as scanning FTIR and LiDAR
Experience using data analysis software and interpretation CBRNE data
Strong communications skills
Excellent ability to document results and experimental approaches
Quickly and clearly present test concepts and field related details from PowerPoint slides
Preferred Skills & Abilities
Test design and development experience in CBRNE field applications
Knowledge in CBRNE instrumentation technology and methodologies
Knowledge or experience with several of the following: wiring diagrams, FTIR spectroscopy, Aerodynamic Particle Sizing, and Elastic Backscatter LiDAR, Radar, circuit design,
Expertise and proven track record running instrumentation R&D programs
Expertise in Programing in R, Python, C++, C#, and/or Matlab.
Expertise in data visualization and analyzing large data sets.
Expertise in analog and digital signal processing.
Experience leading small (3-7 people) teams of professionals in a high paced R&D environment.
Familiarity with chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear safety concepts
