Summary of Position

Responsible for the safety, security and welfare of the entire Central Texas College Campus including facilities, staff, faculty, students and guests. Direct oversight and supervision of all police department operations including police personnel, maintenance of police vehicles, police equipment, campus traffic devices, parking enforcement, security surveillance systems and state mandated reports.

Minimum Required Education

Must have a Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university with five (5) years active duty law enforcement experience and an advanced certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education ( TCOLE ); OR have an Associate Degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university with ten (10) years active duty law enforcement experience and an advanced certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education ( TCOLE ).

Preferred degree in Criminal Justice.

Minimum Required Experience

Five (5) years active duty law enforcement experience with Bachelors Degree; OR ten (10) years active duty law enforcement experience with an Associate Degree.

Must have work experience in patrol functions, investigative techniques, budget and personnel management and administration and at least five years of law enforcement supervisory experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be proficient in the operation of a patrol vehicle, patrol vehicle equipment and proficient in weapons qualification.

  • The ability to evaluate, train and counsel subordinates.

  • Considerable knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques and equipment.

  • Must be knowledgeable in local, state, and federal laws, city ordinances, and college rules and regulations.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating stations and in making decisions. Must have the skill to operate tools and equipment pertinent to the position including the police patrol vehicle, police radio, handgun and other weapons as required (lethal and non-lethal), side handle baton or ASP , handcuffs, cell phone and first aid and safety equipment along with the ability to train and show proficiency with those tools on an annual basis.

  • Ability to perform work requiring good physical conditioning.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, supervisor, and general public. Must possess strong customer service skills and ability to interact positively with faculty and staff at all levels.

  • Ability to follow and give good verbal and written instructions.

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle responsibility.

  • Possess analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to maintain campus crime statistics and submit to NIBRS / UCR monthly. Understanding of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for Texas Campuses reporting requirements as well as the requirement to compile and analyze statistics from other locations.

  • Ability to provide clear instructions and guidance to callers in emergency situations and related information accurately and clearly to Bell county communications or any responding first responder.

  • Ability to work efficiently, smoothly and collaboratively with first responders as well as regional and state law enforcement agencies during an emergency.

  • Ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media.

  • Working knowledge of the principals in Crisis Intervention and Active Shooter Techniques. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel software.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong fundamental grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

  • Ability to maintain an extensive filing system.

  • Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and multi-task.

    Salary 1H/Per Salaried Pay Scale + 10k stipend

    Hours Full-time, indicate working hours - 7:30am - 5:30pm (Mon - Thur); 7:30am - 11:30am (Fri), Other - As needed

Must be at least 21 years of age or older, eligible for coverage under CTCD’s commercial auto and other liability insurance policies. Ability to meet Department’s Physical, Medical, and Psychological standards, and hold a current permanent Texas Peace Officers License as issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.
