Job Description

The College of Business Administration (COBA) at Texas A&M University-Central Texas (A&M-Central Texas) invites applications for a highly effective educator to start in the fall of 2025 as an Assistant Lecturer of Computer Information Systems. This is an exciting time to join our faculty, as COBA just received AACSB accreditation in the spring of 2023, and our new Interim President, Dr. Richard Rhodes, started in October after an incredibly successful career growing Austin Community College.

The faculty member will teach various undergraduate courses in programming, data communications, computer networking, database management, cybersecurity, and other related areas in computer information systems as determined by department needs and individual qualifications. The teaching load will be four to five courses per semester, depending on the number of different course preparations and qualifications, and will be delivered in various modalities, including face-to-face, fully online, and/or multi-modal. The faculty member will be expected to perform the duties regularly expected of a faculty member, including, but not limited to, meeting their courses as scheduled, holding regular office hours in accordance with COBA policy, attending COBA and department meetings, and submitting syllabi and attendance verification on time. This position will also be expected to serve as needed on departmental, college, and university committees and maintain at least Instructional Practitioner (IP) status as described in COBA’s Faculty Qualifications policy.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any US employer. The department is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.

Institutional Overview

Texas A&M University-Central Texas (A&M-Central Texas) was established in 2009 as an upper-level undergraduate (junior and senior level classes only) and graduate institution within the Texas A&M University System. In 2010, the U.S. Army donated 600+ acres of land for our campus, which has three buildings and a fourth set to break ground in 2024.

A&M-Central Texas is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), and COBA is now AACSB accredited.

A&M-Central Texas is located on the southern edge of Killeen, TX, a city of over 150,000 and adjacent to Fort Cavazos, the largest Army installation in the world. Killeen is about an hour north of Austin and just a few miles west of the I-35 corridor, one of North America's fastest-growing trans-metropolitan regions. The area is known for its lower cost of living, friendly people, and the ability to choose one’s lifestyle due to the diversity of the area and ease of travel (mile a minute on average).

The student body is one of the most multifaceted in the state, and the university was recently designated as a Hispanic-serving institution. COBA students generally classify as non-traditional, with a substantial number working part- or full-time. Many students are military-affiliated (active duty, spouse, veteran, and other dependents).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned M.S. in Information Systems / Computer Science or a closely related degree/area.

  • Must possess minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission of Colleges (SACSCOC) credentialing standards, which normally includes a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area taught or suitable appropriate justification.

  • Successful candidates must demonstrate experience as an effective educator.

  • The ability to be classified as an Instructional Practitioner (IP) under COBA’s AACSB faculty guidelines, which requires at least three significant professional engagement activities related to the field of teaching over the previous five years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant industry experience in the areas listed above

  • Industry-recognized technical certifications

  • Considerable experience as a highly effective educator, including in online instruction

Salary: $80,000 for the fall and spring terms. Additional compensation for summer teaching may be available based on student demand and faculty performance. Summer compensation for this position would start at approximately $6,500 per class.

Hours: Variable faculty hours depending on assigned courses. Nights and weekends may be required for graduate and online courses.

Work Location: This is not a fully remote position and selected candidate will be required to work on campus dependent on course assignment.

Closing Date

Review of applications will begin on February 1, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled.
