Senior Physicist - SCI

KBR is seeking a Senior Physicist to join our team in Kihei, HI. Our customer maintains an ongoing research and development (R&D) effort focused on exploring and innovating technologies that advance state-of-the-art ground-based, electro-optical space situational awareness, optical imaging, advanced space tracking, and space object characterization capabilities. This contract will fulfill our client’s commitments to operational customers and to develop improved, innovative, and enhanced capabilities that advance the state-of-the-art and better meet the near-term needs of these customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with Government customer to identify requirements and develops technology to meet those needs.

  • Develop improved capabilities for dim object detection, image reconstruction, adaptive optics, lasers, imaging through turbulence.

  • Oversees scientific experiments and studies to test system performance.

  • Performs mathematical calculations to analyze sensor data.

  • Develops computer software to analyze and model data.

  • Supports integrated testing of novel Space Domain Awareness capabilities.

    Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in STEM or related field

  • Master’s degree in STEM

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in imaging system design, operation, maintenance and control of adaptive optics and wavefront sensing systems, and operation and maintenance of fiber/solid state lasers

  • Demonstrated experience in design, assembly, troubleshooting and maintenance of optical and laser systems

  • Broad background in physical sciences

  • Familiarity with the USAF and US Space Force space control/space domain awareness mission area

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in electrical optics or related field

    Clearance Requirements: TS/SCI required
