Purpose

Ketchikan Indian Community (KIC) job descriptions are a management tool to help organize

Job Summary

The incumbent will be working a forest setting on stream and forest restoration. Training for

this position under the guidance of the Field Crew Leader during the first weeks covering safety,

chainsaw use, hand tools, use, etc. The next two weeks of work will be in the Ketchikan area

in a forest setting conducting trail maintenance and removing invasive species. The next two

weeks will be at a remote work site conducting stream restoration. Overtime (Time and a half)

is expected, while working at a remote site conducting stream restoration. Camping at a remote

forest site for 2 week is required. This is an entry-level position, crew members must be open

to learning, and willing to work hard in a physically demanding position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Crew members will spend the first two weeks of training under the guidance of the Field Crew Leader., earning about safety, chainsaw use, hand tools, use, etc.

  • Crew members will be working the next 2 weeks in a forest setting conducting trail maintenance and removing invasive species and working at a remote site conducting stream restoration.

  • Camping at the site for 2 week is required.

  • Crew members will be expected to exercise sound judgement working in the forest.

  • This is an entry-level position, crew members must be open to learning, and willing to work hard in a physically demanding position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be 18 years of age to apply;

  • Willing to work, willing to learn, willing to take direction;

  • Ability to take verbal instruction and complete assigned project by established deadline;

  • Must have eyesight and attention suitable to assess site safety and proximity to other workers.

  • Familiarity with chainsaws, winches, and other hand tools is a plus.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

Must be able to hear. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color

vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use

hands to finger, handle or operate tools, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop,

kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing, sitting,

walking, bending, and stooping; in a forest setting and routinely lifting, walking and carrying

objects up to fifty (50) pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Crew members will be working and living in a remote forest setting. This is a general laborer

position and applicants must be able o walk through the woods while carrying 30-50 pounds,

lifting push, grab, manipulate, and pull heavy objects.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 18 years of age to apply.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
