Community Connections Executive Director in Ketchikan, Alaska

JOB SUMMARY [[In partnership with, and reporting to, the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides focus, direction, and vision in carrying out the mission of Community Connections, modeling the core values at all times. The Executive Director ensures a clear strategic plan is developed and implemented, providing leadership for day-to-day operations and assuring a smoothly functioning, efficient organization in pursuit of plan goals and exceptional service delivery. All Community Connections employees are expected to contribute to the professional reputation of the agency through understanding and promoting the organizations mission and core values in all aspects of services.

  • Assures the organization has a long-range strategic plan in achievement of its mission, providing leadership to make timely progress toward plan goals, and prioritizing activities to address immediate and long term needs;
  • Ensures business activities and practices are aligned with the agencys mission and core values while developing, delivering, and maintaining comprehensive, high-quality services;
  • Works cooperatively with the Board to support them in fulfilling their governance functions, facilitating optimum Board performance, and ensuring Board members have the resources necessary to make well-informed decisions;
  • Develops, revises, and recommends policies to the Board of Directors, implementing procedures to ensure policies are achieved;
  • Identifies, acquires, and diversifies funding sources by writing grant proposals, designing fundraising activities and negotiating with various funding agencies to support program activities, service delivery, and agency health;
  • Ensures effective risk management and compliance activities are conducted, including assuring the filing of all legal and regulatory documents, monitoring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, serving as the Contract Agent for the organization, seeking legal and other professional services as warranted, among others;
  • Maintains a high professional profile, building relationships by diversifying, educating, engaging, and energizing the various stakeholders of Community Connections;
  • Assures program quality and organizational stability through development and implementation of standards and controls, systems and procedures, and regular evaluation;
  • Facilitate a positive work environment that recruits, retains, and supports high quality staff, while assuring effective human resource functions of selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff;
  • Directs the preparation and implementation of the annual agency-wide operating and capital budget in collaboration with the Finance Director and in partnership with Program Directors and Board of Directors;
  • Reviews monthly financial results to ensure programs are in alignment with their approved budgets and that plans for improvement are developed if budget deviations are sufficient to warrant this action;
  • Manages staff by setting clear and aligned performance goals and expectations, providing effective feedback and coaching, measuring progress and holding people accountable, recognizing achievement and lessons learned, and supporting ongoing professional development;
  • Facilitates effective group planning sessions and meetings to include senior management meetings, strategic planning, work sessions and others.
