Kent Youth and Family Services Assistant Teacher in Kent, Washington

Kent Youth & Family Services (KYFS) is hiring Assistant Teachers for our Early Learning, Head Start & ECEAP programs. This position works with the lead teacher to provide comprehensive learning experiences for children that will help them develop in an appropriate manner, based upon age and developmental stage.  To enhance the parent's role as the principal influence on the child's education and development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include but not limited to:

  • Help to develop and implement individual learning plans, (ILP), prepare materials and classroom environment to support lesson plans.
  • Interact with children to support their individual learning and emotional needs.
  • Complete on-going written observations of individual children as directed.
  • Assist in providing a varied curriculum, including multi-cultural and literacy experiences.
  • Assist in administering child health and development screenings.
  • Present prepared meals and eat with the children in a family style manner.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining accurate records on each child, stored in a confidential manner.
  • Provide transition activities for children and families to help make a smooth transition to the public school system.

MIMIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA or BA degree in Early Childhood Education; OR Current CDA or enrollment in a CDA program with completion within 2 years (Head Start);
  • The equivalent of 12 college quarter credits in ECE (for ECEAP).
  • Provisional hire: Completed Professional Development Plan and 5 years to completion (ECEAP)
  • Proof of physical examination, including TB test. If positive, chest x-ray or doctor's statement.
  • Obtain First Aid, Infant/Child CPR card and a Food Handler's permit within 90 days of hire and keep current.
  • Completion of a successful criminal history and fingerprinting background check.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet family needs, including some evenings.

*COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:  *

  • JOB TYPE/SHEDULE: Full-Time, Monday to Friday, day shift with some evening work

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical agility to participate, supervise events and classrooms as needed. Generally good working conditions with limited or no exposure to extremes in noises, temperature, and weather conditions. Assist child(ren) during emergencies and daily activities, including occasionally lifting and holding them. Lift up to 60 pounds with or with out assistance. Stand, stoop, kneel, bend, and work with children on the floor for extended periods of time. Follow universal precaustions when caring for children's hygiene needs, including toileting and emergencies.
