Tech Services Supervisor

Job Summary

The Marathon Petroleum Corporation is seeking to fill our Technical Services (Tech Service) Supervisor opening at its Kenai Alaska Refinery.

The Tech Service Supervisor will be responsible for leading a group of process Engineers that support refinery Area Teams. The Technical Services Supervisor develops people and provides leadership through coaching/mentoring, succession planning, performance management, recognition, and employee engagement processes.

The schedule for the position is 9/80. This role does support TAR once every three years.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic technical plans, and conceptual studies to improve refinery performance.

  • Ensure that the day-to-day technical needs of the refinery are met. Assign, prioritize, and expedite troubleshooting, process optimization, and process safety activities among engineers.

  • Generate regular reporting to highlight trends for process unit health, mass and energy balance, and catalyst management.

  • Engage process engineering for effective and timely development of turnaround scopes of work and event support planning.

  • Communicate effectively with the Area Team Leaders, Refinery Management and other stakeholders to reach agreement on priorities and allocate appropriate resources.

  • Ensure Tech Service Excellence and develop engineers by providing technical oversight and identifying training needs and learning opportunities.

  • Assist engineers with sound investment decisions and guide them in the development of capital budget projects and decision support packages.

  • Participate on refinery Asset Management Team and collaborate with peers for effective prioritization and resource allocation to accomplish refinery objectives.

  • Manage the performance of engineers by assisting to set challenging goals.

  • Provide team with honest, timely feedback, and chart a course for their long-term success.

Education, Experience and Skills

Minimum (Required) Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelors in Chemical Engineer degree. ( Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)

  • Must have at least 10 years of post-degree of combined engineering and production related support experience in the refining and/or petro-chemical industry.

  • Must possess the following competencies : Build Trust, Coach,

  • Excellent Communication, Leading Change, Strategic Decision Making and Planning and Organizing.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)

  • Travel Requirement is 10% or less.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.

  • The schedule for the position is 9/80 and this role does support TAR once every three years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 or more years of operations supervisory or management experience in the refining industry is preferred.

  • Strong technical skills covering multiple refinery technologies.

  • Understand the refinery configuration ‘big picture’ and how units interact.
