The Alakaina Foundation Family of Companies has a need for a Database Administrator to support our government customer located in Kauai, Hawai'i.

Supporting the Information Technology (IT) Department. The Database Administrator (DBA) manages and maintains databases, ensuring data is accurate and safe from breaches. The DBA maintains and performs database capacity-planning, configuration, performance monitoring, security, troubleshooting, as well as backup and data recovery. Provides administrative support for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and other database systems. Participate in Information Assurance compliancy procedures and controls for application software and systems.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific assignments and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following areas:

  • Establish overall vision and direction for improving database administrative and security operations.

  • Database System administration and configuration; workflow development and administration along with a major role in end-user support

  • Ensure overall performance, reliability, and security of data, databases, and related applications.

  • Manage database structures by monitoring performance and adjusting the internal structures (tuning) as required.

  • Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies to protect critical data and ensure data integrity. Perform regular backups and test recovery procedures to minimize the risk of data loss.

  • Perform the implementation of Department of Defense cyber security regarding IAVM and SRG/STIG requirements

  • Involvement in planning, designing, creating, installing, customization, upgrades, and maintenance of databases to meet government and contractor defined requirements.

  • Assists with production incidents and resolutions, including root cause analysis and recommendations.

  • Collaborate with other teams, including system administrators, and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration and efficient database operations.

  • Implement/maintain database reporting and continuous improvement.

  • Documents databases, procedures, and deployed applications.

  • Support other database products as necessary.

  • Provide training for new users or for new application products.

  • Candidate must be capable of working in a team environment and participate in technical activities throughout the project life cycle and maintain a close technical involvement with all contributing organizations.

  • Effective oral/written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

  • Perform other duties as required including property custodian.

    Environment: Can anticipate occasional calls after hours to coordinate emergent mission change requirements or in response to PMRF Emergency Action direction.

    Office conditions are varied and includes physical tasks including lifting, pushing or pulling up to 25-50 pounds. Physical positions will include but not be limited to walking, sitting or standing for extended periods of time, crawling, kneeling, stooping or cramped working places and work requiring repeated or frequent climbing. Environment will include customer contact, extended workdays, an office laboratory environment with field assignments, sometimes in inclement weather.

    REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university in Computer Science or similar discipline is required. Five years of directly related IT experience may be substituted.

  • DoD 8570/8140 IAT II

  • Microsoft SQL certification or equivalent

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three plus (3+) years as a Database Administrator

  • Database Management Systems (DBMS): deep understanding of one or more DBMS platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB. Proficient in installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these systems.

  • Database Design and Modeling: possess strong skills in database design and data modeling. This includes creating efficient database schemas, defining relationships between tables, ensuring data integrity, and optimizing database structures for performance.

  • SQL (Structured Query Language): well-versed in SQL to perform tasks like querying, updating, and managing databases. Expert in writing complex SQL queries, optimizing SQL code, and understanding database optimization techniques.

  • Performance Tuning and Optimization: proficient in monitoring and optimizing database performance.

  • Backup and Recovery: solid understanding of backup and recovery strategies to ensure the availability and integrity of data.

  • Security and Access Control: expert in database security to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulations. They should be skilled in implementing access control mechanisms, setting up user roles and permissions, encrypting data, and monitoring for security threats.

  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, Java with extensive experience in developing security-focused solutions and automation scripts.

  • Must be proficient in report writing, gathering, and analyzing statistics, and using Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point

    DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with Maximo

  • Experience as an Oracle Database Administrator

  • Experience with DoD systems and infrastructure.

    REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Top Secret security clearance is required. (Applicants selected either must currently possess a Top Secret clearance or will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.)
