Renaissance Software Engineering Manager in Kansas City, Missouri

We are seeking a dynamic Engineering Manager to lead and manage an agile multi-disciplinary Platform Engineering team at Nearpod. You will play a key role in an impact driven culture and apply your ingenuity and creativity to make our team and company better. You will influence our development philosophy and practices while continuing to scale Nearpod. You’ll work closely with product managers to develop innovative solutions that enable Nearpod’s teams to deliver great classroom learning experiences.

In this role you will:

  • Lead and manage a team of software engineers to ship high-quality, innovative ideas.

  • Develop and implement engineering best practices, standards, and processes helping cultivate a user value driven culture.

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the engineering team, including scheduling, resource allocation, and project management.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product management and design, to ensure the successful delivery of software products and solutions.

  • Act as a mentor and coach to team members, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their career goals.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and trends in the software engineering industry.

How you will do this:

  • Split your time 60/40 between managing and individual contribution.

  • You’re part of an agile, multidisciplinary team.

  • You engage that team in 1:1s, periodic reviews, and deliver feedback with candor at the right time.

  • You bring your own unique skill set to the table and collaborate with others to accomplish your team’s goals.

  • You prioritize your work with the team and its product owner, weighing both the business and technical value of each task.

  • You experiment, test, try, fail, and learn continuously.

  • You don’t do things just because they were always done that way, you bring your experience and expertise with you and help the team make the best decisions.

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3 years of experience in a management or leadership role.

  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies, including Agile, Scrum and Kanban.

  • Experience with a variety of programming languages and technologies.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Bonus Points For:

  • Understanding K-12 education and the ed tech space.

  • Experience leading in a 100% remote environment - we have engineers across the US, as well as remote teams in Latin America.

Salary Range: $120,000-$165,000

This range is based on national market data and may vary by location.
