Burns & McDonnell Public Involvement Project Manager - Environmental Services (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a senior-level communications project manager with client/account management experience and political savvy to manage/oversee the communications and outreach effort to support utility, industrial, construction and development types of projects. This includes managing outreach strategy development and implementation throughout the life of projects to make our clients successful.

Duties include:

  • Develop and implement a stakeholder outreach and management plan to support project developments through sitting, permitting, construction and close out.

  • Establish functional goals, strategies and objectives to meet client goals of community outreach and engagement.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with project stakeholders, public officials, property owners and business affected by large scale projects. Proactively seek opportunities to build project awareness to keep the parties informed of project activities.

  • Manage subcontractors to keep them on track in supporting project objectives (schedule, cost, community relations goals, etc.)

  • Manage development of content and materials that advance public involvement projects by translating technical content into precise, well-designed graphics that are on-brand, on-time and on-budget; including print collateral, digital deliverables, and brand identity pieces.

  • Demonstrate tenets of social networking and experience with digital interfaces and web development languages.

  • Effectively use concepts of Goals, Objectives, Strategies, and Tactics to develop solutions that meet those concepts.

  • Develop and implementation of strategic outreach plans and processes. Elements of these plans could include social media, video production, newsletters and fact sheets, website content, public meetings and open house materials.

  • Plan, coordinate, perform, and manage the implementation of public involvement activities and outreach for the project, such as public meetings, information sessions, municipal leader briefings, and other special events.

  • Prepare estimates to include public engagement costs, schedule, collateral, etc.

  • Provide graphic support for promotional initiatives and award submittals.

  • Manage the documentation of questions, concerns, and requests from public officials, property owners and businesses using the Company’s internal web-based database.

  • Monitor and report to internal and client project management on critical communications issues and activities.

  • Provide guidance, training, and assistance to project management and other project team members in communicating project information to the public.

  • Maintain compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, fine arts/design or visual communication, marketing, business administration or a related field from an accredited program required.

  • Minimum 8 years of related professional experience (10 years preferred).

  • Working knowledge of desktop publishing applications (i.e. Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) and proven experience using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS).

  • Utilize emerging technology with proficiency.

  • Strong conceptualization skills for alternative printing, production and packaging techniques.

  • Basic analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines on multiple projects.

  • High level of attention to detail.

  • Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
