Summary This position is located within the Housing and Urban Development-VA Supported Housing (HUD-VASH) Program with the VA Homeless Program located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, Kansas City, MO. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Greets and assists Veterans and other visitors to the HUD VASH program promptly and professionally in a positive and welcoming manner. Receives and screens numerous telephone calls from Veterans or family members, community service providers, the public, and contractors. Verifies accuracy and completeness of information on paper or computer documents or records. Reviews correspondence and communications and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature. Organizes meetings, to include Obtaining space, maintaining the calendar for meeting and conference schedules for the program coordinator and staff and using initiative to establish meeting priorities, taking minutes and other related duties. Uses a computer or word processor to create, edit, print, retrieve, or manipulate files. Reviews letters or documents to determine if they conform with policies or regulations. Processes incoming forms, records, or other documents. Research price differences between charge amounts and purchase order amounts. Purchases from mandatory supply sources to see if they meet organizational needs and best pricing prior to using open market sources. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. AND To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, applicants must meet one of the following: Specialized Experience: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: performing a full range of administrative support for an office; receiving visitors and phone calls; reviewing all incoming and outgoing correspondence; scheduling meetings; and utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. OR Education Substitution: Possess a Bachelor's degree or four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. NOTE: Transcripts required with application. OR Combination of Experience and Education: Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education, as described above, that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. NOTE: Your experience must be detailed, and transcripts required with application. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Attention to Detail Clerical Technical Competence IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary in nature and requires occasional walking, standing, bending and carrying of light items such as books, papers, medical records, etc. Commuting between the Medical Center divisions and the CBOCs is also expected.
