The Benefits Administrator will be responsible for the implementation, communication, administration, and analysis of the benefit programs at Burns & McDonnell and its subsidiaries. This role will perform the day-to-day administration of group benefits programs in compliance with benefit laws, regulations and plan documents. The Benefits Administrator will have a thorough understanding of benefit procedures, demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, and have the ability to independently and collaboratively work to implement creative solutions that enhance our Total Rewards initiatives. This is an onsite opportunity located at our World Headquarters office in Kansas City, MO.

  • Administers various benefit programs, including group medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life, disability, EAP, time off work, COBRA, ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), and 401(k) plan offerings.

  • Assists with corporate on-site programs including health center, pharmacy, gym, farmer's market, credit union and other programs.

  • Provides immediate support to the HR Total Rewards team by reviewing, improving, and implementing processes, programs, and policies with a fresh perspective.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships between the HR Department, employees, and other corporate services departments to facilitate the success of Burns & McDonnell's Total Rewards team goals.

  • Produces content for and conducts benefit education presentations and execution of education strategy to assist employees in understanding of benefit programs.

  • Regularly generates and publishes written and online benefits communications.

  • Prepares and distributes benefit notices and correspondence to current and former employees and beneficiaries.

  • Confidentially assists employees, retirees and beneficiaries regarding benefits issues to ensure timely, equitable and courteous resolution. Utilizes a high level of discretion and judgement in handling sensitive information, especially during transitional moments such as life events or retirement.

  • Works closely with retiring employees during the offboarding process.

  • Responds to confidential benefit inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes, retirements and other general inquiries.

  • Reviews and administers domestic relations orders.

  • Performs tasks related to completion of annual benefit plan audit and internal quarterly audits.

  • Responsible for regular quality review and audits of payroll-related data and all benefits enrollments to provide benefit vendors and payroll with accurate eligibility and deduction information.

  • Performs necessary calculations relating to retirement plans and periodic reconciliation and analysis of benefits, leave, and wellness program data.

  • Compiles, creates, and presents ad hoc reports and data requests through proficient use of Microsoft Excel and other applications to provide analytical insight into program offerings and for internal purposes as requested.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business, Finance, or related field.

  • Minimum 4 years related experience, preferably in the analysis, design, and/or administration of benefit programs.

  • Basic knowledge of federal and state benefit laws preferred. Previous experience with health & welfare, time off work, and retirement plans a plus.

  • Strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and manipulation of numeric data. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to develop creative and innovative benefit plan strategies.

  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), specifically analytics and reporting (e.g., Oracle, ADP, SAP).

  • Strong MS Office skills; including proficiency in Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, work independently and organize and prioritize work while managing multiple projects/tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to clearly present complex information. Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and provide excellent customer service.
