Job Description
The Assistant Press Operator supports the setup and operation of a press or coater as well as support equipment. This role involves preparing the work zone and components before setups and during operation, loading and unloading components during setup, obtaining cardboard packaging, forming boxes, printing labels, packing finished material into boxes, and sealing the entire unit when finished.
This position is a lower level machine operating role with the goal to become an independent press operator making $24+.
1-2months making base wage, then given a dollar raise
After 4-6 months of "training" will be promoted to a press operator position starting at $24/hr---MUST BE OPEN TO 2nd/3rd SHIFT FOR PROMOTION
Responsibilities
Proactively monitor and document product quality during all phases of operations.
Identify and load or unload raw materials and finished goods (e.g., PS Stock, Paper, Boxes, Cores).
Build and label boxes and pallets, then pack and seal as needed.
Move pallets, stack them, and shrink wrap in preparation for shipment.
Operate fan folder, sheeter, bagger, tape machine, turret, or other finishing equipment.
Directly support the setup of the press/coater and the turret/sheeter/folder or other finishing equipment.
Prepare, test, and apply adhesives, inks, releases, or other chemicals to support operations.
Measure and adjust pH, viscosity, and color of ink, varnish, adhesive, or other chemistry.
Mount printing plates and dies onto cylinders.
Assemble components to be put on prep carts to expedite machine setup.
Select, identify, insert, and remove plates, aniloxes, or gravure cylinders from presses as well as components from turrets or finishing equipment.
Properly clean and store aniloxes, gravure cylinders, or printing plates.
Essential Skills
Manufacturing experience preferred.
High School Diploma or GED.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Basic computer and math skills.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to read scale within 1/64.
Ability to enter data legibly and accurately into forms as well as computers.
Ability to read, write, interpret, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos (e.g., safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and operating manuals).
Ability to read and understand work orders and ask questions.
Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and all levels of management.
Ability to work as a team with others to meet business requirements.
Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Work Environment
The work environment is non-climate controlled. Training will be on the day shift from 7am-5pm, Monday through Thursday, with the possibility of moving to a 2nd or 3rd shift. Assisting press operators on the day shift is required, and if you eventually want to move into a press operator role, you would need to transition to 2nd or 3rd shift.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.38 - $18.38/hr.
