140 miles west of Detroit and 50 miles south of Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo is a city in southern Michigan. The Pactiv Evergreen Kalamazoo Carton Converting Facility is located in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with easy access to the beautiful Great Lakes region and the cities of Chicago and Detroit. Opened in 1952 and employing 175 team members, the facility prints and die cuts refrigerated gable top cartons for a variety of national and regional brands, primarily supplying important dairy nutrition to schoolchildren throughout the US.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in a food packaging materials development laboratory. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the design and testing of new materials, new material processing methods and the implementation of innovative packaging solutions that meet the evolving needs of the food industry.

Responsibilities

· Design and develop new plastic and fiber processing equipment and systems for the manufacture of food packaging.

· Manage equipment installation and commissioning.

· Manage contractors and ensure PTVE safety guidelines are followed.

· Conduct experiments and tests in a development laboratory, semi works and manufacturing settings to evaluate the performance of processing equipment.

· Optimize the operation of plastic and molded fiber processing and converting equipment.

· Provide technical support and troubleshooting for manufacturing processes.

· Participate in the scale-up of laboratory findings to full production levels.

· Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to food packaging.

· Document all phases of research and development.

· Travel to manufacturing sites and vendor locations as needed (less than 20% travel required).

Qualifications

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.

· Experience working in a development laboratory or manufacturing environment.

· Experience reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics

· Strong knowledge of mechanical design, controls technology, and familiarity with plastic and paper converting equipment.

· Proficiency with mechanical CAD and numerical and statistical analysis software.

· Familiar with PLC programming and automation software.

· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Strong communication and project management skills.
