Position Specific Description
This position is within the Corporate Environmental Services (ES) Department of NextEra Energy (NEE) and supports Power Generation Division's (PGD) environmental compliance program throughout the fleet. Specifically, this position works on the PGD Environmental Fleet Team and focuses primarily within NextEra Energy Resources (NEER). The ES Senior Specialist - Compliance Assurance is responsible for helping to ensure compliance throughout the PGD fleet with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and standards.
The applicant must maintain current knowledge of pertinent national, state, regional, and local level environmental policies and regulations, have the ability to effectively interface with internal and external customers, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders, and be able to assist in resolving complex environmental matters.
The applicant must have the ability to provide senior level environmental staff support for operational facilities in power generation. Primary responsibilities include the follow:
Support in environmental transition plan execution from construction to operations, ensuring compliance with environmental requirements and standards
Support the training program for sites to utilize regarding environmental regulations, best practices, and compliance procedures
Conduct operational reviews to assess compliance with environmental regulations and standards
Perform condition assessments throughout the fleet to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans
Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential environmental impacts
Facilitate change management initiatives related to environmental compliance, ensuring smooth transitions and adoption of new processes
Conduct periodic inspections of facilities, equipment, and operations to identify and address any environmental compliance issues
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, and legal, to ensure alignment with environmental compliance objectives
Stay updated on relevant environmental regulations, industry standards, and best practices, and communicate changes to the organization
Participate in environmental audits and regulatory inspections, providing necessary documentation and support
Limited travel to various company sites as needed
Location: Juno Beach, FL or other regionally appropriate locations may be considered
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in related field (Environmental Science or Engineering), Master’s preferred
Minimum of four years of directly relevant experience
In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and standards, including but not limited to air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials
Experience with compliance related software and/or data tracking systems
Advanced oral and written communication skills as well as analysis, problem solving, compliance, leadership, and process/project management skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across different levels of the organization
Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
