City & Borough of Juneau Treadwell Arena Manager (24-0378) in Juneau, Alaska

The Treadwell Arena Manager oversees the daily operations of Juneaus only ice arena, managing all aspects including budgeting, program development, scheduling, and facility use for the public and main user groups. The manager ensures excellent customer service, oversees guest services, retail sales, rentals, reservations, passes, and concessions, and acts as the face of the Treadwell Arena. The Treadwell Arena Manager is a member of the Parks and Recreation Departments Senior Staff and reports to the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation.

Key responsibilities include planning and developing comprehensive skating and recreational programs, special events, classes, and summer camps; enhancing existing programs, and creating new ones to meet community needs. The manager works closely with user groups to process scheduling requests and resolve conflicts.

The role involves decision-making authority in training, scheduling, and supervising rink staff, including recruitment, evaluation, and ensuring the facility is appropriately staffed, as well as filling in when necessary. The manager also plans, develops, and monitors the operating budget for the Treadwell Arena, identifying budget needs, preparing requests, and monitoring expenditures. Overall, the manager ensures the Treadwell Arena is a well-managed, vibrant facility that meets the needs of the Juneau community.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION This position generally works Monday through Friday, 8am - 4:30pm, including, at times, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The Treadwell Arena is located at Savikko Park (105 Savikko Rd) on Douglas Island.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience:One year of professional level experience in the administration or management of a recreational facility that includes developing and implementing comprehensive recreational programs/activities and scheduling/coordination f facility user groups.
  • Licensure:Current First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment.
    • SUBSTITUTION:Experience in specialized areas of the administration or management of a recreational facility that includes developing and implementing comprehensive recreational programs/activities and scheduling/coordination of facility user groups may substitute for the education requirement on a year-to-year basis.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • One year experience in the administration or management of an ice rink or arena that includes developing and implementing comprehensive ice programs and activities.
