Responsibilities The employee performs a variety of tasks that utilize established visitor management practices, processes, methods, and procedures. Develops and presents a variety of interpretive programs including orientation talks, conducted walks, and demonstrations to a variety of general public audiences or school groups. Initiates or assists with development or revision of interpretive materials, such as brochures, guidebooks, handouts, and exhibits. Operates a variety of audiovisual and other equipment used in connection with interpretive programs. Prepares and conducts on-and-off site environmental education programs for a variety of audiences. Initiates or assists with the creation or revision of environmental education materials. Provides orientation, interpretive, and regulatory information relating to site specific regulations, hunting and fishing programs, and other visitor activities. Assists with maintaining working relationships with partnership organizations by attending a variety of events and functions, giving informative talks, and asking for assistance that benefits all parties involved. Drafts written materials to increase understanding of the Forest Service Mission, assistance with a special event, or explain the goals and objectives of the visitor center. Assists with issuing special permits for wildlife/natural resource dependent recreational activities or other appropriate and compatible special events or activities. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications You must meet the ANILCA eligibility requirements to be referred for this position. Eligibility Requirements: You must have lived and or worked in or near the geographic boundaries of the Tongass National Forest and have special knowledge or expertise concerning the natural and cultural resources in the Southeast Alaska area to participate in information, education, and interpretive activities. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional Information Positions filled will be full-time seasonal with 18 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 8 pay periods of nonpay time. This is a bargaining unit position and is represented by NFFE. Government housing may be available. Federal affiliated daycare facilities may be available. This position is not eligible for telework. If you are newly hired, the documentation you present for purposes of completing the Department Homeland Security (DHS) Form I-9 on your entry-on-duty date will be verified through the DHS "E-VERIFY" system. Federal law requires the use of E-VERIFY to confirm the employment eligibility of all new hires. Under this system, the new hire is required to resolve any identified discrepancies as a condition of continued employment. ANILCA appointments require a 2 year probationary period. Upon completion of 2 years the incumbent will be non-competitively converted to a career or career-conditional appointment if all of the following are met: successful completion of 2 year probationary period, Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification requirements are met for the position the incumbent is converting into, satisfactorily meeting performance requirements, and completion of all prescribed training. If all requirements are not met upon completion of two years in this position, employment will be terminated.
