Summary About the Position: The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate and conduct wildlife management activities in the Willamette Valley Project consistent with program objectives established by the Master plans for Resource Use and the Natural Resource Manager. The incumbent also assists in providing professional support to project staffs in developing and implementing the wildlife management sections of the Project Operational Management plans. Responsibilities As a project Wildlife Biologist, you will plan, coordinate and conduct wildlife management activities consistent with program objectives. You will also assist in providing professional support to project staff in developing and implementing the wildlife management sections of the Project Operational Management Plans (OPMs). Review Annual Work Plans submitted by projects to ensure consistency with the Project Operational Management Plans (OPMs). Provide technical assistance to the projects in planning and conducting various wildlife management programs. Prepare annual wildlife status reports and scientific taking permit reports/applications including federally listed species and and sensitive species. Collect and analyzes field data. Maintain computerized files for wildlife management program. Plan and coordinate special training sessions for project wildlife coordinators, as required. Routinely oversees seasonal interns and wildlife technicians in conducting various wildlife management activities. Plan and conduct inventories and surveys to collect basic biological information. Coordinate wildlife management activities and programs with representatives of other federal and state agencies having licenses or leases on Corps lands and waters in Willamette Valley Projects. Develop educational programs for the general public in the form of brochures, slide presentations and interpretive displays. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Individual Occupational Requirement: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 9 semester hours in such wildlife subjects as mammalogy, ornithology, animal ecology, wildlife management, or research courses in the field of wildlife biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in zoology in such subjects as general zoology, invertebrate zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, genetics, ecology, cellular biology, parasitology, entomology, or research courses in such subjects (excess courses in wildlife biology may be used to meet the zoology requirements where appropriate.); AND at least 9 semester hours in botany or the related plant sciences.(NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts for verification purposes.) -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), with at least 9 semester hours in wildlife subjects, 12 semester hours in zoology, and 9 semester hours in botany or related plant science, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.(NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts for verification purposes.) Minimum Qualifications: Qualified applicants will describe in their resume at least one year of specialized experience with planning and conducting wildlife resource studies; or planning and conducting field inventories and monitoring studies; or interpreting population and wildlife habitat data; or assisting in preparing wildlife management plans. -OR- Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: wildlife biology, zoology, or ecology. (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts for verification purposes.) -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
