In this vital role, you will partner with Juncos, Puerto Rico Operations leadership, to develop and implement external and internal executive and functional communications strategies that help to advance the goals of Amgen Operations, notably to drive our reputation based on our science, manufacturing innovation, and reliability. The Director will collaborate with numerous cross-functional partners to identify and deliver compelling narratives for media, executive, and employee engagement.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide critical Corporate Affairs counsel to the Senior Leadership team to identify needs, objectives, and strategies to create effective and meaningful executive communications.

  • Works as a key member of the Operations Corporate Affairs team and has responsibility, as a member of that team, for the delivery of identified shared or “network” deliverables and initiatives.

  • Collaborates with Corporate Affairs colleagues across functions and geographies.

  • Leads development of the local Corporate Affairs strategy, content, and materials to convey the operations narrative, drive Operations’ key external initiatives, and support a positive business climate in Puerto Rico.

  • Develops news releases and other media materials to support key milestones, initiatives, and teamwork.

  • Leads media outreach related to AML LLC organization, accountable for key trade media publications.

  • Proactively works with enterprise media team to garner favorable press coverage with business, health, trade and consumer press and long-lead coverage spanning a variety of topics of key importance to Amgen.

  • Develop and implement communication strategies and tactics related to crisis management.

  • Anticipates and prepares company spokespeople and third-party spokespersons (where appropriate) for issues or events, including media training for external and internal spokespeople.

  • Interact with external associations such as PRMA, PIA, INDUNIV, Chamber of Commerce, and others.

  • Liaison with the Government Affairs team when it comes to local legislation changes that could impact AML LLC.

  • Support the development of a vibrant corporate culture through data-driven communication strategies informed by survey results and including staff engagement events.

  • Lead for, and as a member of, the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), corporate affairs strategies to business priorities.

What we expect of you

We are all different, yet we all use our unique contributions to serve patients! The Corporate Affairs Director we seek is a collaborative individual contributor leader with these qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of corporate affairs experience

OR

Master’s degree and 7 years of corporate affairs experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of corporate affairs experience

Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are:

  • 10+ years of related experience and/or 7+ years in regulated industry communication role.

  • Academic degree in public relations, communication, or journalism.

  • Experience working in-house on the communication activities of a major biotech or pharma company, including in support of the Operation organization.

  • Ability to interface and influence behaviors and outcomes at all levels

  • Experience leading communications for Senior Executives.

  • Demonstrable capabilities related to teamwork and a proven ability to collaborate with multiple functional areas.

  • Validated experience developing/implementing strategic communication plans with foresight in anticipating and solving complex communication issues.

  • Media/journalist experience – experience in maintaining relationships, ability to pitch, and highly effective at identifying “big picture” stories that are of interest to premier publications.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills including the ability to understand and translate complex technical business language.

  • High emotional intelligence coupled with refined interpersonal and relationship management skills; enthusiastic, team player and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence.

  • Strong project management and facilitation skills.

  • Strategic problem solver with the ability to think quickly, analytically, and creatively to accommodate a dynamic environment to develop actionable programs that address business objectives.
