Wastewater Laboratory Assistant
Department: Public Works Division: Wastewater
Primary Purpose
Collects wastewater samples for laboratory testing from treatment plant and local industries; sets out portable samplers as needed to collect off-site samples; takes temperature, pH, and water meter readings; cleans and maintains all sampling equipment; other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requires successful post-offer completion of a background investigation, physical examination, and drug screening (including marijuana/THC) as a condition of employment with the City of Joplin.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Experience:Prior work experience or training at a wastewater treatment plant or laboratory is preferred, but not required.
Licenses and Certifications:Possess and maintain a valid state-issued drivers license. Possess a Missouri Class D Wastewater License within one year of appointment.
Schedule
Monday - Friday 8AM - 4PM.

Starting at $15.037 per hour, depending on experience.

Essential Job Functions
Repairs and performs preventative maintenance on wastewater treatment facilities including lift station equipment, pumps, valves, and manual and automated control devices.
Checks reported equipment malfunctions at lift stations and wastewater treatment plant facilities.
Troubleshoots equipment problems, parts, materials, and tools or equipment needed to make necessary repairs.
Assists Plant Operators and maintenance staff to complete necessary repairs.
Upgrades or retrofits a variety of electrical control devices and related equipment.
Performs general building maintenance and repair work including painting; performs landscaping responsibilities.
Operates wastewater treatment plant as a backup operator, as needed.
Contributes effectively to the Public Works Department, communicates effectively with co-workers, both within the department as well as outside the department. Maintains satisfactory attendance to ensure duties are performed without negatively impacting co-workers or delivery of service to the public.
