Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain DoD Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the 7th Signal Command, 106th Signal Brigade, located in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington Responsibilities Serves as quality control inspector to ensure that contractor workmanship and materials meet government requirements and specifications. Troubleshoots, repairs, modifies, and maintains aerial, buried and underground duct cables including associated pressurization. Installs or removes aerial, buried, and underground duct telephone communication cables. Reviews work orders, blueprints, schematics and specifications; designs changes as needed; and updates cable maps and blueprints. Operates and maintains heavy equipment, hand tools, test measurement, and diagnostic equipment (e.g. Backhoe, aerial ladder/bucket truck, air compressor, chainsaw, Volt/Ohm/Amp meter, ultrasonic leak detector). Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Wire Communications Cable Splicing Inspector without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common troubleshooting all types of telephone equipment and distribution systems; using tools/equipment such as holehawgs, rotohamers, drill motors hot metal pots, aerial buckets, ladders; and common hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, hammers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating Physical Effort - Work requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, climbing, pulling cables, and working in cramped or uncomfortable conditions, underground or at moderate heights for extended periods. Frequently lifts and carries 20 to 100 pounds. Work requires occasional use of metal lineman spurs and safety belt. Working Conditions - Works inside and outside in all weather conditions, and occasionally in crawlways under buildings or in attics. Exposed to injuries from use of hand tools, electrical shock while working with cables which may be electrically charged, falls from high places when installing or repairing aerial cables, and noxious fumes in manholes.
