Job Summary

This position is accountable for the execution and delivery of Supplier Quality strategy in the relevant program, line of business, manufacturing environment, or set of suppliers. Our Supplier Quality Engineers ensure compliance to regulatory requirements and procedures for regulated products/processes including high quality performance of suppliers.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you will be accountable for providing oversight of suppliers and executing proactive/reactive actions to improve the quality of the products/services provided to Leonardo DRS.

Job Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and disposition of non-conforming material. Analysis of defects for determining if they are/were supplier caused and resolving defects with the supplier. Initiate and drive root cause and corrective action on process and product quality issues. Follow up on supplier corrective action, evaluate responses and ensure objective evidence substantiates adequate closure.

  • Define Supplier quality risk mitigation steps and corrective actions for known and unknown defects by using proven quality tools such as APQP, PFMEA, and Control Plans

  • Participate on product quality improvement teams, Material Review Boards and Failure Review Boards

  • Evaluate and make recommendations on critical supplier selections and drives supplier continuous improvement processes, including leading on-site audits, evaluating prototypes, and reviewing and approving of supplier corrective actions

  • Execute supplier site surveillances or source inspections

  • Execute Supplier performance monitoring, reporting, improvement, and development.

  • Provide technical support for Assembly / Test / Inspection personnel to include executing workmanship improvement plans, developing inspection methods and criteria, specifying appropriate sampling plans, interpreting, and revising specifications

  • Review and approve engineering / test and contractor documentation and provide input to assure that appropriate quality requirements are addressed

  • Perform analyses of program requirements and prepares responsive quality plans, procedures, schedules and resource allocations to assure optimum quality support

  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer, as required

  • Assist in resolving customer quality issues

  • Support Supplier audit schedule development, execution, and maintenance

  • Completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirements

  • Analyze and execute projects independently

  • Develop and generate statistical reports on inspection activities and results, new product or process testing results, etc and recommend action as required

  • Consider financial impacts of quality process controls and inspections

Job Responsibilities Part II

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • Attend appropriate customer, business or program meetings

  • Prepare quality engineering reports and recommendations

  • Monitor and mentor junior quality engineers

  • Provide regular reporting of progress and status

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field or equivalent experience

  • Exposure working within a regulated environment with working knowledge of ISO 9001/AS9100D or similar

  • Preferred experience in executing APQP (AS9145), IQ/OQ/PQ, or PPAP with suppliers

  • Confidence and experience to speak directly with executive management of supplier organizations to communicate production defects and audit results which including both successes and programmatic deficiencies

  • Working knowledge of statistical methods/analytics, Lean and continuous improvement practices

  • Ability to understand military specifications and to read blueprints

  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication and writing skills

  • Ability to define problems and drive to root cause and effective corrective action. Resolves problems independently
