AmeriServ Financial Assistant Trust Accountant in JOHNSTOWN, Pennsylvania

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE:

Provide accounting support for the recordkeeping activities of the Retirement Services Division including assisting in the preparation of applicable tax returns, client and governmental reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Keep informed of new developments, policies, procedures, laws and regulations concerning retirement plans, IRA's and all retirement services accounts.

  2. Assist in the completion of retirement plan participant allocations and the administrative & recordkeeping functions by utilizing accounting systems and other computer resources.

  3. Meet daily departmental deadlines to include mutual funds trades and pricing, as well as 401(k) company contributions and distributions.

  4. Assist with account balancing to the Trust system and verify that accurate division accounting records are up-to-date.

  5. Assist the Retirement Services staff with the daily operation within the department.  

  6. Support the administration in the recordkeeping of the unit in accordance with the terms of the governing instrument, applicable policies, procedures, regulations and laws.

  7. Assist with the preparation of quarterly reports, participant statements, and statement mailings.

  8. Assist in preparation of required governmental reports, including Form 5500, and any plan related ERISA audit information and packages on a timely basis for assigned institutional trust accounts.

  9. Assist with the preparation and review of Qualified Plan Testing (ADP, ACP and Top Heavy) required by ERISA.

  10. Assist with enrollment of new plans and participants.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position requires no supervision of employees. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a professional office environment.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The employee is frequently required to: 1) Type or otherwise work with fingers; 2) Talk expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.  Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers or clients accurately, loudly, or quickly; 3) Hearing -- perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with/without correction.  Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make the discriminations in sound. 4) Specific vision abilities required by this job include: viewing a computer monitor; extensive reading along with travel as required.

Sedentary work may require occasionally lifting of up to 10 pounds and/or move up to 25 pounds.  This work involves sitting most of the time with walking and sitting.

 

TRAVEL:

Occasional travel may be required for training or conferences.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of a two-year degree is required, however, in lieu of the degree we will accept a minimum of two (2) years direct or related experience in finance, accounting, trust or retirement services. Strong knowledge of computer software such as Word, Excel, etc is a must, along with effective communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
