Corteva Agriscience Virtual Phenotyping Intern - 6 Month in Johnston, Iowa

Join us at Corteva Agriscience for an exciting and impactful 6-month internship designed to give broad based exposure on the day-to-day activities of a team that works at the intersection of world class statistics, computer science and seed product design to explore novel virtual phenotyping techniques. Corteva Agriscience is a global leader of seed, crop protection, and digital solutions in agriculture. This position will reside within the Seed Product Development Biostatistics & Scientific Computing team. This team discovers, adapts, and develops state of the art statistical methodology and computational algorithms, that help convert into actionable insights real-time, high-volume data streams, to inform optimized Seed Product Design.

Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

  • Work as part of a team to help develop, deploy, and characterize state-of-the-art Biological Model - Whole Genome Prediction (BioWGP) methodologies.

  • Collaborate with Biostatistics and Scientific Computing experts to validate and integrate high throughput BioWGP analytical software systems into Corteva's analytics and decision software systems.

  • Manage your own research project with the expectation of a verbal report to the larger intern group found throughout the United States.

  • Gain excellent experience that can be applied to full time positions in the industry, or in preparation for additional graduate level training in the plant sciences.

Qualifications

Qualifications - What You'll Bring:

  • Priority will be given to students that are in later stages of their graduate studies at an accredited university.

  • Solid foundation in mathematical modelling and statistical analysis method. Knowledge of and experience with Bayesian Hierarchical models is a plus.

  • A solid foundation, passion, and interest in scientific programming of mathematical models describing biological and developmental mechanisms and processes.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with individuals of diverse language, cultural, and scientific backgrounds.

  • Ability and confidence to manage and manipulate large data sets using languages like R or Python. Willingness to test and help validate internal analysis software.

  • Must be enrolled at an accredited university at the time of internship.

  • Must be able to relocate to the Corteva Seed Hub global headquarters in Johnston Iowa for the duration of the internship.

  • Creative thinking and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
