POSITION TITLE: Extrusion Operator
SUMMARY and SCOPE: This position is primarily responsible for operating and maintaining the melt spinning extruders that create man-made fibers.

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following: Operate and maintain melt spun to create man-made fibers. o Understand and identify the individual components which compose the spinning machines. o Understand how to input control values on instrumentation panels and verify the conditions are TRUE. o Utilize the sucker gun (aspirator) to start, string, and perform doff. o Be able to identify the individual parts which make up a melt spun pack. o Be able to insert, remove, burn clean, and build packs. o Understand how to remove Godet rolls and clean fibers and debris as needed. o Be able disassemble and reassemble the finish systems. o Understand how winders function, how to remove material and debris from them, and how to change critical parts such as guides and belts. o Understand the extruder components (hopper, screw, heaters, etc.) ? How to remove, clean and change extruder screws; ? How to clean extruder barrel; ? How to disassemble/reassemble the hopper and polymer fed related components to correctly convey polymer to the extruder. o Understand how a desiccant dryer works and how-to setup to each machine. o Understand the crystallization process and its importance. o Understand the chill water system, what it feeds, and how it relates to the melt spun operation. o Set up melt spun extruders per specification issued by quality. o Understand how to mix and test finish solutions per product specification. Follow all safety rules and wear appropriate PPE per job function. Identify known hazards related to the melt spun extruders such as wear on the machines that could result in failure or potentially hazardous operating conditions. Enter MROs and communicate repairs need to maintenance personnel. Complete prep work and preset of the machines per customer specifications. Perform routine checks and accurately record changes and conditions of the machine(s) to ensure process specifications remain within correct tolerances. Test materials that are produced to ensure deniers and quality is within required specifications. o To do this, operators must demonstrate proficiency and care during the use of quality testing equipment. Report any issues immediately to the extrusion supervisor for resolution. Must work first hand with the quality department to determine that materials meet or exceed requirements. Must be familiar with and comprehend and follow written work procedures and flow charts in order to maintain within the ISO 9001:2015 parameters. Must be able to navigate The Net to access the following Quality Test Methods for Extrusion: o TM-6 Fiber Shrinkage; o TM-11 Sampling Methods o TM-35 Denier Reel Procedure Flowchart o TM-36 Instron Testing Procedure Flowchart o TM-37 Intermingle Test o TM-38 Testrite Shrinkage Accurately record consumption per shift. Perform trouble shooting to diagnose equipment problems and/or product non-conformance. Perform routine maintenance on equipment as required in the Extrusion Department. Maintain a clean work environment to avoid materials contamination and work safely around others. Follow detailed instructions whether written or oral outlined by department supervisor. Successfully complete any training, safety program relating to the operation of the equipment. Operators may be periodically required to work in other departments as the companys demands change and required assistance in other areas.
EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE: Good mechanical skills. Must have a basic understanding of compute s. Must have good reading, writing and math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculating percentages. Good oral and written communication skills are necessary. Good coordination of both left and right hand is a plus.

High school diploma or GED with one year of trades training and at least one year of related experience; or a combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively one-on-one with other employees on all shifts. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Must be willing to work in a team-oriented environment.
