Job Overview:Responsible for preparing microscopic slides from surgical, cytology and autopsy specimens by using microtome, special stains and cytology fluid processing techniques to aid Pathologist in Making diagnostics,

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Work requires the level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of one year of occupationally specific education beyond High School or an Associate s degree in Histology or other closely related field

  • Two to three years of previous work related experience required

Preferred:

  • ASCP certification as a Histology Technician is preferred

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem

  • Variable Shifts

Essential Functions:

  • Performs decalcification of bone specimens, special procedures such as immunoflourescent and immunohistochemical studies,

  • Prepares frozen section slides to provide immediate diagnosis; assists in morgue; enters cytology into LIS; inventories and pulls slides as needed,

  • Performs equipment and instrument maintenance,

  • Pick up specimens from Labor and Delivery:Placenta

  • Assist the Pathologist/PA in the grossing room,

  • Performs daily cleaning of the working area before and after use,

  • Performs daily temperature check,

  • Filing slides and blocks,

Pay Rate: $33.91-$45.07
