Verisk is seeking a Cloud Platform Engineer to contribute to the design, deployment and continual management of AWS cloud resources supporting Verisk's primary data analytics platform. The ideal candidate should have experience working in securely governed multi-account cloud environments and will follow Verisk best practices for security and data governance. Additionally, the individual will take end-to-end ownership of team projects which may coordinate with business-facing teams.

The Cloud Platform Engineer position requires in-depth knowledge of primarily AWS cloud infrastructure at the Solutions Architect level of proficiency. The successful candidate will be able to rapidly apply their AWS infrastructure knowledge to real-world business problems constrained by specific security policies, and creatively define and implement new solutions that advance Verisk data analytic capabilities.

This role requires significant experience in cloud computing environments, hands on technical skills, a passion and appetite to master new technologies, and excellent communication skills. The Cloud Platform Engineer must enjoy interacting with diverse and globally distributed technical teams and maintain a mindset focused on helping others succeed in the cloud computing projects.

Responsibilities

• Define, deploy, and manage AWS infrastructure resources such as EC2, RDS, IAM roles/polices, security groups, and lambda functions via CICD processes and infrastructure-as-code scripts while adhering to Verisk best practices for security and compliance.
• Due to the sensitive nature of Verisk data assets, the individual will follow and help to refine standard processes and must demonstrate attention to detail.
• Assist with monitoring and evaluation of cloud resources with respect to Verisk compliance and remediation of issues found.
• Contribute totechnical design of project architectures; evaluate security exposure, cost, and maintenance aspects of proposed solutions; propose alternative solutions to optimize approaches.
• Researchemerging cloud technologies and evaluate technical merit, such as performance and governance, through the definition and rapid execution of proof-of-concept projects.
• Assist internal teams with cloud requirements and understanding of AWS services as well as Verisk policies for best practice and compliance.
• Assist in troubleshooting end-user issues associated with utilizing deployed AWS resources.
• Interact with AWS staff assigned to assist Verisk.

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Ability to lead projects to support internal customers and communicate effectively.
• Proficient in deploying and managing containerized applications using Amazon EKS and ECS. Demonstrated ability to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient Kubernetes deployments.
• Expertise in Linux operating systems, writing and managing AWS scripting for automation and task optimization within cloud environments.
• Comprehensive knowledge of AWS networking concepts, including VPC endpoints, PrivateLink, VPC peering, and overall VPC architecture. Ability to design and manage secure and efficient network topologies.
• Experienced in creating and updating infrastructure as code using tools like AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, and AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK). Skilled in managing state files and troubleshooting IaC deployments to ensure reliability and compliance.
• Extensive experience with AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM). Proficient in refining and implementing IAM policies to align with Verisk's stringent security standards, ensuring robust data and resource governance.
• In-depth understanding of AWS database services, including RDS, DynamoDB, and Aurora.
• Completion of AWS Certified Solutions Architect (or similar) certification preferred.
• Experience common industry security standards with application to cloud compliance.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Must be detail-oriented and able to multi-task to meet standard response times and deadlines.
