Jay Peak Resort Greensperson I - 2025 Summer Season in Jay, Vermont
SUMMARY Under direction of the management team, works on the diverse range of activities involved in golf course maintenance and construction, does semiskilled grounds construction and maintenance work and performs tasks as required in a professional and timely manner.
*Please note that this a seasonal position from May 1st to October 1st.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (include the following, other duties may be assigned)
Follows the guidelines set forth in the Jay Peak employee manual and supplemental greens department manual.
Follows all safety guidelines.
Performs tasks as directed by the greens management team.
Uses powered equipment to mow greens, tees, aprons, fairways, roughs and other areas on the property.
Performs course cleanup using hand blowers, tractor blower, sweeper, chipper, log splitter, tractors or manual labor.
Assists in the implementation of erosion control and environmental management plan
Rakes sand traps either mechanically or by hand
Waters, fertilizes, top dresses, seeds, aerates, verticuts, rakes and grooms turf areas
Grades and prepares a soil plant bed, lays sod and seeds golf course and related property
Changes cups and tee markers and course setup
Assists in the construction of new greens, tees, fairways, and other features by grading, preparing soil and seeding with appropriate erosion measures.
Operates dump trucks and other light equipment for hauling materials and removing debris
Performs tree work and pruning, which involves the use of chain saws and brush cutters, chipping, clearing hauling and burning.
Performs or assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of structures and accessories associated with the golf course
Cultivates and weeds flower beds and shrubs and similar clubhouse grounds
Keeps equipment clean fueled and lubricated. Notifies the mechanic immediately of any equipment failures, noises, vibrations or concerns, etc.
Observes, monitors and directs players and notifies the management team of any occurring problems on the premises
Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read & comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, & memos. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one & small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY
Basic Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Basic computer skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to safely operate equipment associated with the maintenance of the golf course. Having or developing an understanding of the game of golf as it relates to the everyday maintenance of the course and its players.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of tools, methods and materials in golf course and grounds landscape construction and maintenance work.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
