The Boeing Company is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Virtual Maintenance Training (VMT) Center of Excellence (CoE) team located in Jacksonville, FL . This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Global Services (BGS) business organization.

The Lead Software Engineer will have a background in Virtual Maintenance Training embedded software development, interfacing, advanced knowledge in Aircraft systems/components and functions to lead architecture/development of VMT frameworks and mentor junior teammates. This need is crucial for accurate simulation of aircraft behaviors, as a system, for proper training of aircraft maintainers on a faulted system. This role requires a high level of experience on interfaces, Mission Systems and other aircraft items that differentiate Boeing OEM training capability/concurrency to join the team in Jacksonville, FL.

The selected candidate will act as the lead for technical integration with internal/external teams to meet simulation requirements that involve complex actual aircraft systems to the training simulation. Mentoring senior and junior peers, performing individual contributor work for software development of advanced system simulations. Our team executes the development and deployment of a wide range of virtual maintenance training systems for multiple defense platforms; to include P-8, F-15, F/A-18, and additional platforms deployed throughout the globe. Our customers span the globe including the US Navy, Australia, UK, Qatar, India, and Singapore.

This position requires an individual who has excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and is comfortable interacting with diverse cultures, and a demonstrated understanding of Boeing’s Engineering Best Practices. The selected candidate will have experience leading technical efforts and have been a mentor to other engineers. They will be a subject matter expert (SME) in embedded software development, software architecture and/or maintenance training development and have the ability to work as part of a large team with many different products and deliverables.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead embedded software development of Virtual Maintenance Training software in an agile software development environment

  • Work alongside VMT SW Chief Engineer to help determine the design, hardware and software integration needs of the VMT product line

  • Work closely with management and technical leads to provide recommendations on architectural and design decisions and updates to existing product designs and help deliver first time quality products

  • Work together with Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test teams to translate high level system and software requirements into low level software requirements that can be implemented by other engineers

  • Lead estimating efforts for future contractual work

  • Mentor other software engineers in best practices and in Software design practices and processes

  • Develop and refine team processes and systems

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. Ability to obtain Secret U.S. Security clearance (Post-Start) is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science

  • 15+ years of experience in software architecture and design of embedded software systems

  • 10+ years of experience working on a response to a request for proposals (RFP) and contract support

  • 2+ years of experience in aircraft simulator training device maintenance and the operating systems, visual imagery, and display systems associated with flight simulators/training devices; OR 5+ years of aircraft avionics component maintenance and repair

  • 15+ years of experience with software requirements, software design, hardware software integration and testing

  • Programming and/or scripting ability (bash, python, java, c)

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ LabNet Experience

  • 3+ years of experience working with Virtual Maintenance Training (VMT)

  • Direct experience designing and developing software for Virtual Maintenance Trainers

  • 3+ F-15 Aircraft Simulation Experience Aircrew or Maintenance

  • 5+ years of experience as a integration or lead in the development of avionics software

  • 10+ years of experience leading people in a technical environment as a team lead or manager

  • 3+ years of research and development experience in Virtual Training environments

  • 3+ years of experience with software development programs such as Red Hat Linux systems

  • Familiarity with Unity/UnReal capabilities

  • 3+ years of experience with configuration management and collaboration tools such as (or similar to) Git, Gerritt, JIRA, Collaborator, Beyond Compare, and VersionOne

  • 3+ years of experience with Scaled Agile Framework enterprise (SAFe) or Agile in general

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Travel

Occasionally required (10%-25%) to travel for multi-site collaboration, reviews, customer meetings, etc.

Relocation

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility. Basic relocation will be offered for eligible internal candidates.

Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range for Lead: $151,300.00 - $204,700.00
