JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Central Design Engineeringprovides high-quality, cost-effective, on schedule design services for the Entergy Nuclear Fleet. Central Design Engineering is responsible for providing requested modification packages to the Nuclear Fleet. Modification design control is maintained through effective configuration management of design output documents (e.g., specifications, calculations, drawings, test requirements, and procedures).

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare cost-effective modifications as assigned to improve plant performance and reliability.

  • Prepare engineering products consistent with defined standards, procedures, and regulatory guidelines to ensure the site’s design and licensing basis is maintained.

  • Assist in the solutions to issues that impact safe, reliable operations and propose process changes that improve overall efficiency.

  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, engineering, and other fleet organizations.

  • Manage engineering work assignments to ensure the design service provided is meeting department and organizational needs.

  • Communicate to all levels of the organization, verbally and in writing, technical information, concepts, and ideas throughout the engineering product development.

  • Attend training and maintain the qualifications necessary to perform the required group functions.

  • Ensure digital systems projects are prepared, reviewed, tested and monitored with in-depth and specialized methods applied to include the following:

  • software, hardware and firmware specification, procurement, verification and change control

  • design requirements and failure modes and effects validations

  • operations interface and maintenance activities

  • cybersecurity

  • life cycle management

  • Prepare and review computer software and hardware changes.

  • Evaluate the effect of radiated emission for both electromagnetic and radiofrequency emissions on plant equipment. Evaluate the susceptibility of plant components and devices to electromagnetic and radiofrequency emissions.

  • Evaluate the human factors engineering effects of design changes proposed for digital equipment. Evaluate effects of human factors at interfaces with digital equipment.

  • Prepare and review software quality assurance evaluations.

  • Develop and evaluate digital specifications.

  • Test and validate software.

  • Develop software life cycle strategies and plans.

  • Develop design input.

  • Develop and validate operator interface displays and system digital control strategies.

  • Implement configuration controls for digital systems and components. Implement configuration controls for software objects.

  • Conduct licensing activities such as 10CFR50.59 reviews, ensuring digital-specific considerations are applied.

  • Coordinate digital design activities with plant simulator personnel to ensure effects are reflected accurately on the plant reference simulator.

  • Evaluate the effects of plant design changes on simulator operation, fidelity, configuration and certification.

  • Determine preventive and predictive maintenance requirements for systems and equipment.

  • Test and validate systems and components.

  • Develop system and component life cycle strategies and plans.

  • Develop design inputs.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum education required for the position

B.S. degree in Engineering (Electrical/I&C highly desired) or another closely related scientific discipline/physical science generally associated with power plant operations or equivalent work experience (equivalent experience defined as demonstrated success at the engineer/technical specialist level.)

  • Engineer, I: 0+ years of experience

  • Engineer, II: 2+ years of experience (1+ year with master’s degree)

  • Engineer, III: 4+ years of experience (3+ years with PE/master’s degree)

  • Engineer, Senior: 6+ years of experience (5+ years with PE/master’s degree)

  • Engineer, Senior Lead: 7+ years of experience (6+ years withPE/master’s degree)

Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position

  • Nuclear Industry Engineering Change Packages qualification (IP-ENG-001) (Desired)

  • Previous experience in Operations IT, Design or Systems engineering teams implementing engineering modifications. (Desired)

  • Familiarity with the Digital modification process (Analog to Digital, Digital to Digital in an industrial environment) (Desired)

  • Familiarity in application of EPRI 300201186 Digital Engineering Guide (Desired)

  • Familiarity with Distributed Control Systems, HMI, and PLC applications implemented within an industrial environment (Ovation, Common Q, etc.) (Desired)

  • Proficiency in computer codes that support Nuclear Design (e.g., ANSYS, ETAP, ME101, PipeFlo, MathCad, PDMS) (Desired)

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

Desired: Professional Engineering license and/or an SRO license or certification on a PWR or BWR.

EEI Testing:
