What You Will Do


This is a two-year term position with the possibility of renewal based on available funding and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate, maintain, and complete routine repairs of specialized equipment and facilities.
  • Provide advice and instruction on the routine use of specialized equipment and laboratory techniques (including but not limited to: Microscopy, Clean lab, Raman Spectroscopy, XRD, LA-ICP-MS, LC-ICP-MS, and sample preparation).
  • Utilize experience or training in interpretations of experimental results on Earth Materials.
  • Participate in developing laboratory protocols needed for sample preparation and analytical measurements of Earth Materials.
  • Schedule use of equipment, materials, and laboratory facilities.
  • Maintain database of standards and analytical materials.
  • Maintain standard laboratory equipment and inventory records.
  • Complete equipment and lab supply purchases as requested to support multiple research projects.
  • Assist with preliminary grant proposals as requested.
  • Support recharge operation, providing weekly billing reports and consulting with PIs and Department Account Representative.
  • Maintain records of instrument use and billing, and record of time invested in each instrument.
  • Serve as the EAS department safety representative (DSR) Implement appropriate laboratory safety and waste disposal protocols for compliance.
  • Work with the College of Engineering Environmental Health Safety Specialist to ensure EAS adheres to all appropriate laboratory safetyprotocols.

What We Need

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Bachelor's degree or Equivalent; 3 to 5 years relevant experience.
  • Experience with LA-ICP-MS and sample preparation for in-situ mineral and glass analyses.
  • Experience with wet chemistry (including sample preparation).

What We Prefer

  • Master or Ph.D. Degree and more than 4 years of experience in a research laboratory setting.
  • Experience in geochemistry labs.
