The Opportunity

Cornell registrar representatives across Cornell's colleges share a mission to partner with students, faculty, administrative staff, and alumni serving as custodians of student academic records, coordinators for course enrollment, and management of student records so that any person can find instruction in any study, supporting strategic enrollment goals defined by the institution. Registrar services are carried out through a matrixed organizational system in which staff in colleges, schools, and units regularly collaborate with, and consult, Division of Enrollment offices, particularly the Office of the University Registrar, which serves as a partner and resource for all college/unit staff serving registrar functions.


This position plays a vital role in supporting the College of Human Ecology and is a key component of the registrar function. Key Responsibilities include:

  • Counseling Students: Advise Human Ecology undergraduate students on course and degree requirements, policies, and processes. under the supervision of the College Registrar, in compliance with University-wide policies, and state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Policy and Process Implementation: Implement and ensure compliance with University-wide and college-specific policies and procedures related to academic programs.
  • Transfer Credit Evaluation: Evaluate transfer credit for internal and external transfer students, as well as credit from Cornell Abroad and in absentia for continuing students.
  • Diploma Management: Oversee the ordering and handling of diplomas for graduation dates (May, August, January).
  • Staff Training and Direction: Provide direction to administrative staff and assist with the training of faculty and staff on policy, technology, and student advising impacts.
  • Collaboration on New Systems: Participate in the implementation of new student systems and software.
  • Policy Development and Discussions: Contribute to the development and clarification of policies within the College of Human Ecology and the University and participate in discussions within the Registrar's Office and related committees.
  • Backup Support for College Registrar: Serve as a backup to the College Registrar when needed

The successful Assistant Registrar will embody strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a high level of confidentiality and integrity to manage sensitive student records. Additionally, collaboration, problem-solving, and organizational abilities are essential, along with a supportive and empathetic approach to working with students and staff, adaptability to new systems and technologies, and a demonstrated ability to lead, take initiative, and maintain a customer-service orientation.


This is a regular, full-time, exempt (40 hours/week) position that is based in Ithaca, NY. Typical work hours are 8:00AM - 4:30PM Monday through Friday. However, there are occasional evening and weekend requirements to meet department needs.


This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The hybrid schedule will be determined at the time of hire with a minimum of 3 in-person days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Bachelor's degree and two to four years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in using and formatting word processing, spreadsheet, and database packages. Familiarity with desktop computers connected to university wide computer software/systems.
  • Incumbent needs to understand and apply College/School/University policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to handle confidential data is required.
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities simultaneously while handling constant interruptions, ensuring accuracy and paying close attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with PeopleSoft and computers connected to a central host.
