Vistra Power Fundamentals Analyst in Irving, Texas

Job Summary

The overall objective of this role is to develop proprietary points-of-view on power market pricing due to fundamental drivers (e.g. technology-, economic- and regulatory-driven changes) in power markets to support commercial and strategic decision-making

To be successful in role active engagement in conducting fundamental research and providing analytic support that enhances company's competitive intelligence with respect to regulatory and technology trends in gas, wind, solar, energy storage, load and the transmission system is required. Using this information analyst will contribute to development of both quantitative and qualitative point-of-view on power price formation in the PJM region.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

•Support Market Analytics team in development of short-term and long-term fundamental pricing point of views, resource expansion and resource cost trends.

•Develop ability to analyze market price impacts due to potential market changes to renewable penetration levels, transmission infrastructure, supply / demand balance, and ISO/RTO market rule changes

•Perform fundamental analysis to support investment decisions including capital projects and M&A activity

•Ability and willingness to perform research and synthesize data through development or datasets and presentations related to plant retirements and new entrants, transmission status, demand and fuel price expectations

•Support development of transmission models through conducting research and tracking transmission system upgrades identified in ISO/RTO planning processes.

•Track generating resource status, permitting, financing and location information to provide guidance on expected entry and exit drivers.

•Track siting and development timeline of large load adjustments for incorporation in Security Constrained Economic Dispatch models.

•Develop deep understanding and continuous improvement of the company’s fundamental power modeling tools through identification- and development of process efficiencies and/or software interface tools that improve automation and visualization.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

•1-2 years of progressive experience or any other equivalent experience and training which provides a commensurate level of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through power systems or electrical engineering, economics and mathematics/statistics, or operations research coursework.

•Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills

•Deep interest in wholesale power markets and demonstrated programming capabilities to process, analyze and visualize large datasets

•Experience with optimization tools including commercial programs such as MATLAB, GE-MAPS, PROMOD, PLEXOS, AURORA or similar, is a plus

•Demonstrated graphical presentation, and written communication skills
