The Position:

JOB SUMMARY

  • Responsible for thinking “outside the box” and coming up with future IFE (In-Flight Entertainment) design concepts and turning these concepts to reality by doing detailed design using MCAD while considering Thermal Margins, Structural Rigidity, Acoustics, EMI, ESD, DFM, DFT to meet customers' requirements. This position will be reporting to the Director of Technologies R&D.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES.

  • Creating futuristic design concepts, detailed CAD design, including mechanical layout, analysis, evaluation, prototype build, and viability testing of IFE components & systems.

  • Identify promising upcoming technologies from academic and research fields. This entails rigorous overview of past and present technical publications, active engagement with key research laboratories, never ending curiosity for what key players are doing in the technical and design marketplace.

  • Creation of proposals for state-of-the-art designs for new product development according to the requirements and specifications. Assess and report the potential and value-addition of identified technologies. Assessments must be communicated effectively to colleagues in order to make an appropriate go/no-go decision.

  • Attend relevant trade shows and seminars/webinars focusing on design, manufacturing, consumer electronics, aircraft interiors, etc.

  • Push the limits and bring fresh ideas to the table. Concept product design and development for IFE equipment using MCAD.

  • Collaborate with industrial designers to ensure that the concept products are aesthetically the best in its class.

  • Build concept product prototypes.

  • Check concept designs for manufacturability and are ensure product is financially and technically viable.

  • Implementation must demonstrate the positives and negatives of new technologies without consuming a large amount of development time, with a product demo as one of the most important deliverable.

  • Preparation of the summary documentation and construction (Preliminary drawings, Preliminary BOM, 3D parts, potential vendor list, etc.) as the end deliverable to the Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing groups.

  • Product testing.

  • Responsible for relevant testing on the prototypes in a lab environment with the help of test engineer(s) to ensure the concept meets all required aerospace standards.

  • Support engineering analysts in conducting thermal/mechanical shock/vibration/EMI/ESD analysis.

  • Provide the necessary input to the analysts in terms of file formats, test data for them to perform the best analysis possible.

  • Partake in building and maintaining Engineering Processes.

  • Maintain a lessons learned (Dos and Don'ts) database for mechanical design.

  • Study Company processes pertaining to mechanical design and testing, and streamline them by either updating them or removing redundant items.

  • Frequent optimization of existing products.

The salary or hourly wage range of $37.00 – $67.00 HOURLY is just one component of Panasonic’s total package. The final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and incentives. The minimum hourly wage for this role will be the greater of the posted range, or minimum wage for the location where the employee will be working, subject to local minimum wage requirements.

What We’re Looking For:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent followed by an MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Materials Science or equivalent.

  • 2-5 years experience in areas such as Computer/Laptop/Ultra mobile PC design, thermal, strength of materials, properties of materials and machine design.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Accomplished ability to design using Pro/E (Wildfire/Creo) MCAD Tool.

  • Expertise in 3D Modeling and Rendering tools such as Rhinoceros 3D or similar.

  • Exemplary technical writing ability to prepare reports, documentation and presentations.

  • Adept in machining (CAD/CAM) and CNC operation to build quick prototypes in-house.

  • Proven ability to modify existing processes, procedures or methods to develop appropriate solutions.

  • Demonstrated experience providing identifiable technical contributions to the success of a product or project.

  • Demonstrated ability working with multi-function teams to achieve positive results and perform as a technical expert and a source of information.

  • Proven ability in developing and implementing test methods and procedures.

  • Ability to effectively interact with senior internal and external personnel.

  • Adept in commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Mechanical Engineering field.

  • Use skills with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures.

· Paid time off: Exempt Salaried employees receive flexible paid time off. This means that there is no fixed number, range, or limit to the amount of Personal and Vacation Days that may be taken for exempt employees. Non-exempt hourly employees accrue 14 vacation days per year + 7 sick days + 3 personal days. Accrual rate increases with tenure. All employees receive 11 company paid holidays per year. We also close our offices at the corporate level in the U.S. between Christmas and New Year. For operational positions that are expected to work on holidays, we provide additional compensation for hours worked.
