POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fatherhood and Family Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of the family engagement strategy. The Specialist will support the development and implementation of activities supporting families to achieve their goals, become advocates for their children, and understand how to support their children to grow and learn. The Specialist will act as a voice for fathers across Starfish programs and will act as a positive support, modeling positive fatherhood techniques. The Specialist works as a member of the Starfish team supporting children and families to achieve the outcomes as outlined in the Blueprint for Brighter futures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree with specialization in family support, psychology, sociology, family life, social work, children and families, early childhood, or child development. If degree is in early childhood or child development, must have at least nine college credit hours in family support, psychology, sociology, social work, or family life.
At least three years of experience working with children and Parents required.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the implementation of family engagement strategy activities across the Early Childhood Education platform with a special focus on fatherhood engagement.
Plan and implement activities that provide information and education to families about child development and parenting
Plan and implement activities that provide information to families about advocating on behalf of their child’s education
Develop and conduct professional development and training for early childhood education staff
Work in collaboration as a member of the Starfish team supporting children and families to achieve the Blueprint for Brighter Futures outcomes, healthy families, successful students, and empowered families
Oversee the facilitation of parent meetings and/or support groups with a special focus on fatherhood.
Participate as needed in multidisciplinary team meetings when there is an identified or suspected need
Oversee parent involvement in the programs as it relates to parent, family, and community engagement
Oversee the facilitation and training of the Policy Council
Monitor the quality of parent, family, and community engagement as it pertains to family referrals, needs, and fatherhood engagement.
Facilitate training around Parent Gauge and ParentCorps.
Report out program Fatherhood and Family Engagement data to parents, staff, and stakeholders.
Seek out community collaborations and keep an updated resource guide for families.
LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a valid State of Michigan driver’s license
