About the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites (ISMHS):

Role Overview:

Incumbent serves as the Ticket Counter Coordinator and full-time lead within the Visitor Services Department of the Indiana State Museum. Primary responsibilities include ticketing, cash control, customer service, guest experience, and information services. Secondary responsibilities include reservations, access to galleries, group arrivals, and other guest-related services as assigned. The incumbent shall be responsible for supervisory functions in the absence of the Visitor Services Manager, including acting as manager on duty during some weekends and assisting with cash handling and beginning/end of day procedures.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $25,766.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

  • Act as floor staff lead during open museum hours

  • Schedules and coordinates break schedule with appropriate staff and volunteers.

  • Supervises cash controls and practices at the ticket counter so that written procedures and protocols are being adhered to and followed including, but not limited to cash handling, cash outs, checks, credit card receipts, voids, vouchers and processing transactions.

  • Work closely with Visit Services Manager to maintain and implement policies, procedures and expectations for all frontline Visitor Services positions.

  • Some training, reinforcement of procedures and oversight of frontline staff, especially at Ticket Counter

  • Responsible for ensuring that new and renewal membership applications are processed in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Works with visitors to process all requirements for their visit to the museum

  • Process reservations for other groups and individuals for museum exhibits and programs and the L.S. Ayres Tea Room.

  • Answer questions related to the museum, exhibits, programs, future offerings, and the full 12 location museum system

  • Greet and connect visitors with staff or locations for internal meetings

  • Sells tickets for admission to the Museum's exhibits and programs and processes memberships for the Museum.

  • Processes ticket requests for various departments and programs as appropriate.

  • Promotes and sells memberships to visitors of the museum through the ticket counter.

  • Answers questions concerning rates, schedules and information concerning coming attractions.

  • Ensures adherance to accounting procedures pertaining to cash management and sales documentation.

  • Provides clerical assistance to Visitor Services including maintenance of files, verification and distribution of confirmation letters, setting up educational events and workshops in the computer and reviewing workshop and special program reservations.

  • Become an expert in Altru able to answer questions within the department, when requested by other departments and assist site staff when necessary.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need for Success:

  • Knowledge and skills typically acquired through a Bachelors degree or 2-3 years related work experience (degree in management, business, marketing or a related field preferred.)

  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office software

  • Knowledge of customer service standards

  • Ability to operate various types of office equipment

  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation

  • Must be able to work independently
