FFP Production Engineer in Indianapolis, Indiana

JOB SUMMARY:

The Production Engineer's primary responsibility is to support the production and plant operations. This includes but is not limited to, troubleshooting mechanical, utilities, electrical, and automation issues that arise on a daily basis or longer-term strategic projects. This position also includes owning and supporting the plant's Industrial Control and Process Automation systems. This includes designing and building onsite Industrial control and Process Automation systems to address a consistent appetite for continuous improvement and innovation while providing direction and recommendations on matters associated with production improvements. This position requires strong capabilities in all aspects of mechanical, electrical/electronic design, installation, calibration, programming, and troubleshooting. The Production Engineer works closely with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and IT to ensure the site meets its business objectives.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support and follow FFP Corporate/Site Environmental, Safety, and Health policies and procedures

  • Lead by example to continuously eliminate risks and potential hazards in the workplace

  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the plant control systems and equipment. This includes troubleshooting, replacement, and maintenance strategies

  • Assist Engineering/Operations with troubleshooting and modifying PLC programs and systems

  • Direct Maintenance team with developing and implementing preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory levels to support reliable operation of the controls equipment

  • Inspect electrical/controls work done by contractors and assist with construction management

  • Assist site teams to solve day-to-day operational issues and reach short- and long-term performance goals

  • Assist with continuous improvement projects and identify opportunities for process optimization through increased utilization of controls

  • Participate in capital project execution, various roles from leadership to support – involved in the scope, design, and execution of projects

  • Perform other related duties as necessary

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This position should expect to spend a significant amount of time on the floor, with plant employees and processes

  • Travel: although the position is largely based at the Eustis, FL facility; the employee should expect occasional travel to assist with opportunities at other sites

Requirements

  • Four (4) year B.S. degree in Engineering (typically Electrical) required

  • 10+ years of experience in Industry, preferably in a process-heavy, food manufacturing facility

  • Advanced understanding of and experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining industrial automation systems and related networks, preferably on the Allen-Bradley platform

  • Understanding of all 5 IEC 61131-3 PLC programming languages with original concept PLC programming capabilities

  • Ability to create and read electrical drawings.

  • Ability to wire, calibrate, and otherwise troubleshoot control devices (instruments, valves, VFDs, etc)

  • Industrial Network Communication protocol configuration and commissioning

  • Motor Control/VFD sizing, programming, testing and commissioning

  • HMI design interfacing and commissioning

  • Experience with MS Office applications

  • Experience with data historians and CAD software is a plus
