Job Description:

V2X, located in Indianapolis, IN is searching for an energetic and highly motivated candidate to join its Electrical Hardware Engineering organization. The Principal Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for the design and development of rugged military electrical systems for ground, shipboard, and/or airborne applications. These systems include the specification and selection of Commercial-Off-the-Shelf (COTS) modules, design and development of custom circuit card assemblies (CCA), integration of existing Government Furnished Equipment (GFE), and development of system architecture for Department of Defense (DOD) applications. The candidate is expected to perform lead contributions of the design, analysis, simulation, test, integration, and fielding of digital electronic modules, FPGAs, microcontrollers, and/or CCAs for a variety of DOD applications. The qualified candidate possesses general familiarity with all aspects of circuit card design. Experience with any of the following sub-disciplines is of particular interest: robust digital and mixed signal design, configurable logic (FPGA/firmware) design, RF design and power electronics design. The candidate shall be familiar with PWB/PCB fabrication and SMT process. The candidate shall be familiar with CCA design concepts relating to hierarchical design, impedance control, constraint entry, and embedded test techniques.

Candidates must exhibit a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team. The successful candidate is one who can participate in a multi-disciplined team and properly apply engineering tools and processes under limited supervision. It is essential the individual be capable of adapting to changing conditions and work cooperatively in a team environment. The candidate performs work within the bounds of a given schedule, and sometimes defining the schedule.

The candidate shall architect electrical systems and subsystems performing requirement review, analysis, and derivation; performing trade studies for critical subsystem and component selection; performing circuit analysis on power schemes and digital and analog interfaces. The candidate shall design electrical systems to meet a set of requirements, sometimes defining those requirements. The candidate may be required to utilize analog electronics simulation tools such as LTSpice and power conversion simulation programs like SIMPLIS or SABER to model design performance. The candidate shall have familiarity with component selection and schematic capture. The candidate shall perform electrical schematic capture in Altium Designer and guide Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout and technical drawing creation. The candidate may be required to utilize analysis and simulation tools like Mathcad and MATLAB to assess electrical design performance and robustness. The candidate shall be able to lead the electrical design team in developing and performing design reviews, system integration, and system verification and validation testing. Furthermore, the candidate mentors junior engineers.
