Oncology Research

• Monitors and manages Oncology Research inbox and phone line, answering patient questions, providing research education and managing referrals.

• Assists team with study drug requests, the completion of SAE reporting and performance of study activities, as needed.

• Attends and collaborates at assigned Tumor Board Conference.

• Presents enrolling studies pertinent to the Tumor Board's specialty, explaining rationale, study drug mechanism of action and appropriate patient population.

• Reviews all patients medical and medication history prior to meeting to determine if patient meets protocol specific criteria and could potentially qualify for study enrollment.

• Initiates collaboration with appropriate members of the health care team to ensure prompt and accurate implementation of the research study protocol.

• Helps identify needs of the team and communicates to Manager (i.e., operational, practice or educational issues, equipment, interpersonal skills, specialized skills).

• Completes clinical study start-up activities including the development of Fast Facts, Device Set-up and document development.

Patient Referrals

• Manages new patient referrals to oncology research team, both from within CHNw and outside of the Network.

• Reviews pertinent studies with providers to determine patient's eligibility and schedules patients appropriately.

Patient Navigation

• Establishes a therapeutic-patient/caregiver relationship that enables interactive focus on a patient's individualized needs and plan of care across the study protocol.

• Connects with patient at pivotal points in care delivery. Provides input regarding delivery of patient care per protocol and documents on patient chart.

• Attends/coordinates patient visits to facilitate scheduling of visits, scans, labs or other necessary referrals/procedures.

• Evaluates patient outcomes by documentation on patient chart as relates to protocol.

• Provides input regarding revision of treatment plan, (i.e., variances, outcomes, customer feedback).

• Uses in-depth interviewing and advanced assessment techniques to determine if a potential patient qualifies for enrollment in a clinical research study.

• Individuals may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.

Exceptional Skills and Qualifications

• Education: 4 year / Bachelor's Degree nursing, science or clinical research preferred (Required). In lieu of the above education requirements, a combination of experience and education will be considered.

Certification: within three (3) years from hire Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC-ACRP)

• 2+ years: Relevant experience in clinical research or oncology and/or nursing position related area of specialty

Navigation experience preferred (Preferred)

• Manages study participant care in clinical research trials as well as the cancer care continuum to achieve optimum outcomes.

• Able to demonstrate critical clinical thinking related to qualification for research studies.

• Exhibits mastery of clinical communication with both internal and external physician providers.

• Demonstrates mastery of Clinical Research role with skills in collaboration, delegation, negotiation, and management of resources.

• Exhibits motivation, commitment as a member of the research and cancer care team.

• Demonstrates performance consistent with professional standards of Clinical Research, including compliance with all federal, state and local regulations, and the mission and goals of the organization.

• Excels as member of fast-aced, highly motivated team. Reports to the Oncology Research Manager
