Eli Lilly and Company seeks an Engineer (R1-R4) to provide automated machine and mechanical equipment design leadership. Provide mechanical engineering support to the Equipment Development Group, utilizing mechanical systems design capability, automation architecture, and integrated safety design. Develop and review user requirements and design specifications. Apply mechanical engineering principles for tooling design, robotics, pick and place, conveyors, and materials specification to provide innovative automated machine solutions. Investigate and incorporate the latest electro-mechanical technologies and applications to design and deliver state-of-the-art solutions for internal Lilly customers. Work with the cross-functional project team to develop and execute engineering de-risking proof of concept studies. Ensure Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) focus during the design, fabrication and testing phases of the project and complete ergonomics and safety assessments to provide safe solutions. #LI-DNI

Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field followed by 5 years of progressively responsible experience in automated machine design, AutoCAD Inventor, and leading LEAN initiatives for continuous business improvements. Experience must include a minimum of: 5 years of experience with developing Functional Design specifications and User manuals for automated machines; 5 years of experience with seeking out and applying automated assembly concepts to new applications; 5 years of experience with the specification and application of gear reducers, indexers, drive components, conveyors, and pumps; 5 years of experience with specifying and evaluating coatings, finishes, tolerances, and tolerance stack-up; 5 years of experience with Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) or system administration; 5 years of experience with rapid prototyping and de-risking activities for delivery of robust automated machine solutions; 5 years of experience with the development of machine safety assessment and understanding of SISTEMA safety analysis; and 3 years of experience with project management and delivery of automated machines from concept to completion. Part time telecommuting may be permitted. 15% domestic and international travel required. #LI-DNI
