Position Summary

Position is responsible for working with management of the recreation centers/parks/pools with in the division, including direct supervision of Senior Park Managers and support staff. Work related activities may incorporate all facets of recreational or municipal service delivery. Position is also responsible for the Division in the absence of the Senior Manager of Parks Facilities.

Position Responsibilities

Works with the Senior Manager and division staff to develop, monitor, and ensure compliance of department policy and procedures.

Provides guidance to Senior Park Managers in all areas of responsibility.

Responsible for Indy Stat data, standards of service delivery, and maintenance of properties.

Makes recommendations to the Senior Manager on needed changes to current operating procedures.

Responsible for professional development and training of staff personnel at park locations.

Monitors all facets of park management in division.

Responsible for communicating department policy, procedure, mission and vision to Park Managers.

Facilitates two way flow of communication from Senior Manager to Park managers and vice versa.

Evaluates division staff performance, skills, education, certifications and experience and recommends necessary training programs

Helps to design and deliver training programs.

Responsible for the recruitment, hiring and management of the citywide Day Camp, Playground and Aquatic program.

Works with the division staff in helping to make critical decisions for program planning, budget reconciliation by analyzing statistical data.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and eight (8) years of managerial experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in Recreation or related field required. Must have a clear understanding and working knowledge of general philosophies in the Park and Recreation Field. Ability to learn computer applications for purchasing, budgeting, program registration, facility reservations. General ability to utilize a personal computer for word processing, e-mail, scheduling, and data base spreadsheets. Must be able to understand general fiscal and personnel procedures and policy in the public sector. Ability to work productively under general supervision. Must be self-motivated and dependable. Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills. Must be customer service oriented. Prefer experience working in the public sector. Licenses/Certifications required: Prefer CPRP (Certified Parks & Recreation Professional).

Independent Judgment

Assistant Manager is required to exercise regular and extensive independent judgment. Ability to recognize the need for intervention with any aspect of their operation and notify the Senior Manager. Judgment decisions may significantly affect the fiscal, personnel or physical resources of the department.
