We are looking for college interns who will join our multi-discipline development team in Indianapolis, IN, for an intern experience to support programs in next-generation avionics, secure communications, weapon system integration and logistics data base systems. Our team and products address the customer’s needs for rapid capability integration that provide superior combat relevance and readiness across a host of wide variety of products. Our team develops innovative solutions for Government and Military customers seeking to upgrade and modernize their existing physical hardware and electronic computer and signal processing systems. The ideal candidate should be interested in modern development processes and techniques that improve product quality and team productivity and must process the ability to learn new skills very quickly from a disparate set of technologies. We are looking for up and coming engineering Interns that enjoy a challenge and have a passion to support our DoD customers and international allies. Our Indianapolis facility also supports a variety of other product lines serving multiple DoD customers providing the opportunity to work on a diverse set of programs and roles supporting the continued advancement of your career.
Typical Duties:
An Engineering Intern is responsible for learning how we develop, integrate, test, and document software for an array of system and discrete DoD related products. These responsibilities may include developing software, tailoring reusable software via refactoring, performing data analysis, acting as a data, Front end, back end or full stack engineer, or integrating software components on virtual machines and target hardware. As part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT), an Intern will have the opportunity to learn and take part and grow to understand technical leadership through exposure to mentorship and the full software lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, implementation and unit testing, and software integration and test. A Software Engineering Intern shares knowledge with other engineers and contributes to maturing and improving our processes and products but also learns adherence to coding standards and best practices required within our development environment.
Required Skills:
1-year related exposure to Software Development engineering and processes typically found within a college or junior college undergraduate Computer Science or ancillary STEM curriculum.
Exposed to, or formally completed, a programming course in Python, Java, SQL, JavaScript (or TypeScript equivalent) or Embedded C or C++ programming languages.
Ability to understand or lean basic computer science data structures in order to implement code components as needed.
Strong communication and teaming skills.
Ability to identify and advocate improvement to processes, tools, and technical solutions that affect the team and/or product as needed or recognized.
Self-motivated, proactive and organized, with the ability to receive direction from Mentors and react positively to constructive criticism during the mentoring process.
Desired Skills:
Experience in data analytics libraries and concepts.
Experience in capturing and understanding software requirements.
Experience in Matlab.
Experience in implementing any projects using Informatics Science techniques or architectures.
Experience in developing and implementing GUIs.
Experience in testing software functions and/or systems.
Experience with any number of Web related programming packages such as Mongo DB, Node.Js, Linux, HTML, CSS, Postgres, T-SQL.
Experience in any Web Framework such as Express, Django, Flask, Electron, Sails, Vue, React.
Experience with any static analysis tools.
Experience developing, guiding, or coaching less experienced teammates.
Experience with the implementation of any technical project from initiation to initial MVP.
Experience managing or guiding student led teams or organizations to show leadership potential and aptitude.
Education Requirements:
- Pursuing a Bachelors Degree with a major in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related STEM major.
