Unilever Automation & Controls Engineer in Independence, Missouri

Background & Purpose of the Job

The Controls and Automation Engineer will be responsible for supporting site production equipment, computer systems, software, hardware, and networks. Will drive the site masterplan for electrical systems and controls and automation aligned with the Unilever design teams. Responsibilities will include troubleshooting, implementing changes, driving to root cause of issues, implementing new tools using digital solutions, and identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects. This includes supporting the maintenance and production teams with day-to-day and long-term solutions. This position touches everything from robotics to general automation, networking, and vision systems.

Who You Are & What You'll Do

  • You're a born leader: Leads all electrical engineering and controls and automation capital projects at the site and ensures corporate standards are followed. Provides technical expertise and input into reliability issues for factory systems: SCADA, PLC, HMI, DCS, variable speed control, servo-motion control, etc. to maximize plant efficiency and reliability. You are the site expert on electrical and controls and automation systems. Provides leadership in the management of software modification and optimizing programming, and maintains all records

  • You're a change maker: Participates in establishing company-wide best practices and standards for electrical engineering and controls and automation and is responsible for ensuring compliance at local site. Leads the development of the plant masterplan for electrical systems and controls and automation. Technical resource to the category engineering team for new products and re-stages (innovation and renovation).

  • You're a dot connector: Participates in cross-plant improvement teams. Develop strong partnership with plant manufacturing, corporate engineering and union workforce. Supports root cause analysis on electrical, instrumentation and control issues.

  • You're a culture and change champion: Value engineering; bringing new Ways of Working to the Engineering community in our continued pursuit of the lowest installed cost, while living our core values (Value vs. Values proposition). Y ou will work on PLC programming, Servos, VFD and hardware.   (This factory is 95% Rockwell Automation Based) In addition, the Controls and Automation Engineer will work with the Engineering and Focused Improvement Teams to implement new digital tools using SQL, DFOS, BuildApp , Power Apps and Power BI.

  • You love to win, and have fun doing it: On Time In Full (OTIF) end to end delivery of assigned capital projects (typical value €0.05m - 2 Million) adhering to Unilever standards and ensuring safety as our number 1 priority.

What You'll Need to Succeed:

  • Education: BS in Electrical Engineering, S oftware Engineering, Computer Engineering or related field

  • Experience: 2-3+ Years of Engineering in FMCG / related Industry or gained in an engineering consultancy environment

  • Proficient with MS Office, Allen Bradley RSLogix 5000, SQL Database, and Networking

  • Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment.

  • Strong fundamental knowledge of control and electrical system design and its application in automated industrial designs.

  • Critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to work independently and in team environments.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously.

Desired:

  • First-hand experience delivering major electrical and controls and automation capital projects within Unilever or similar FMCG environment

  • Database Knowledge

  • VMware virtual environment administration

  • Structure Text PLC Programming

  • Robotics software and programming knowledge

Pay: The pay range for this position is $84,400 to $126,600. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.Benefits: Unilever employees are eligible to participate in our benefits plan.
