Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Experimental Power Reactor Operator to work in our Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) Operators department. Our team works a 4x12 schedule located out of our ATR facility.

You will operate and provide continuous surveillance of loop and instrumented lead experiment equipment during both reactor shutdown and operating periods. You will report directly to your Shift Manager and the Department Manager of the ATR Operators department.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Survey and monitor reactors, plants, experiment systems, log instrument readings to detect changes, and maintain historical records.
  • Collect, record, calculate, and interpret reactor and experiment chemistry and operational data.
  • Maintain reactor, plant, and/or experiment instruments, controls, safety systems, and components.
  • Analyze malfunctions and advise supervisor on system operation.
  • Perform reactor start-up, shutdown, power reduction recoveries, power changes, balancing manipulations, and experimental tests using reactor controls.
  • Change fuel components, control rods, and experiments during shutdown.
  • Test the experiment loop, instrumentation, coolant systems, and safety controls.
  • Review and update required procedures/documentation. Perform functional and pre-critical checks.
  • Perform manipulations on reactors during shutdown periods and on experiment equipment during both operating and shutdown periods.
  • Train for Reactor Operator position of certification by completing formal training requirements.
  • Perform related tasks as qualified for and as directed by supervisor including operations in the reactor tank as permitted by Experiment Operator certification.
  • Provide supervision of hands-on training for Experiment Operator as directed by supervisor.
  • Collect and records experiment data, including calculation and interpretation of the data.
  • Maintain experiment logbooks and provide an update of experiment procedures/documentation as directed by supervisor.

*Minimum Requirements: *

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 6 years relevant experience (e.g., Nuclear Navy, Commercial Nuclear Power Plant) or a Bachelor's of Science degree. Desired degree disciplines: Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physical Science. An applicable AS degree and 2 years of relevant experience will also be considered.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

  • The pay range for this position is $34.47/hr - $56.87/hr. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
