Community Counseling Prevention Specialist - Huron in Huron, South Dakota

SUMMARY The Community Counseling Services Prevention Specialist coordinates community mobilization acts and assistance with any prevention programs within CCS covered communities. These services shall be provided in accordance with CCS policies, South Dakota Prevention Program guidelines, South Dakota Administrative Rules and laws of the state. The purpose and scope of the prevention program must encompass current research, theory, and practice-based strategies and activities implemented through structured work plan to outline the scope of services offered. The plan should include: Information dissemination, Education, Alternative services, Problem identification and referral, community-based services, and environmental services through evidence-based interventions.

EXPECTATIONS Community Counseling Services expects employees to be welcoming to consumers, including those with co-occurring disorders, and engaging them at their current stage of recovery. Services provided will be in accordance with the plans and guidelines as established by Community Counseling Services and the State Division of Behavioral Health. QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience Bachelors Degree in Human Services, Education, or Substance Use Disorders, preferred

Certificates, licenses, registrations Drivers license Must not be excluded from participating in Medicare, Medicaid, and any Federal health care program, as provided by the OIG, USDHHS.

Other qualifications Substance Use and Prevention Knowledge Mental Health Knowledge Suicide Prevention Knowledge Effective Public Speaking Ability to work with various ages of youth and adolescents especially middle school aged youth Highly Organized and ability to meet deadlines A strong commitment to working as an integral part of a team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/CRITICAL JOB ELEMENTS

Specific Duties in accordance to ARSD 67:61:11 may include but not limited to: 1. Coordinated the development of public awareness/information campaign through presentations and forums and participation at local events, meetings, etc. 2. Provide assistance, materials and presentations to area schools and youth groups. 3. Provide evidence-based interventions. 4. Provide information and technical assistance on various prevention topics of community interest. 5. Engage in public speaking events to recruit members and community support. 6. To be knowledgeable in the process of grant procurement as well as coordination and the managing and reporting to these grants. 7. Developing, assisting and supporting area community-based groups. 8. Assist steering committees and groups in developing objectives and goals for the year. 9. Dissemination of literature at meetings and local community events. 10. Assist in promotion, planning, and implementation of Chemical Free events and/or activities. 11. Attend necessary workshops and trainings with regard to Prevention and obtain training and provide evidence-based curriculum to community groups and schools. 12. Provide technical assistance to CCS covered communities. 13. Record and report all prevention activities to CCS and Grant as described in the program content. 14. Conduct Quality Assurance and Evaluations as described in Administrative Rules and CCS requirements. 15. Other duties as assigned. 16. A full time provider will work 40 hours a week. 17. Due to the nature of the position, the hours may include evenings and weekends as needed.

Licensure and Credentialing

  1. Complete and maintain trainings and certifications required by Prevention Program recommendations.
