Role Purpose:

A Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing processes for the custom mixing and blending of chemicals and related products to produce manufactured goods. This role involves applying principles of chemistry, physics, and engineering to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Process Design and Development:

  • Design chemical processes to produce various polyurethane, vinyl, and rubber products.

  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments.

  • Optimization and Troubleshooting:

  • Analyze and optimize existing processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Troubleshoot issues in production and implement solutions.

  • Develop Design of Experiments to improve first pass yield.

  • Monitor and analyze process performance data.

  • Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure all processes comply with safety, health, and environmental regulations.

  • Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols.

  • Conduct safety audits and participate in incident investigations.

  • Project Management:

  • Lead and manage projects from concept through to completion.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, chemists, and production staff.

  • Prepare project reports, documentation, and presentations.

  • Technical Support and Training:

  • Provide technical support to production teams.

  • Train staff on new processes and safety procedures.

  • Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in chemical engineering.

  • Support supplier development and 3rd party material testing.

    Critical Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD).

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment, preferably in the chemical industry.

  • Proven track record of process design, development, and optimization.

  • Lean experience preferred.

    Working Conditions:

  • Typical work is conducted in both office and production environments.

  • May require occasional travel to various plant locations.

  • Must adhere to safety standards and wear appropriate protective equipment as needed.
