General Requirements:

The Engineering Technology Department at SHSU has 400+ majors and offers 40+ different Engineering Technology courses taught by fifteen faculty members. The new academic building – Fred Pirkle Engineering Technology Center houses the faculty offices, classrooms, CAD / CAM , electronics, rapid prototyping, innovation, material testing, and alternative energy labs. The department also maintains the Westmoreland Engineering Technology Laboratory ( WETL ) that houses the woodworking and metalworking labs.

Nature & Purpose of Position/Usual Duties:

This position requires the candidate to teach four courses per semester using partial online delivery method. Ability to teach traditional and online courses is expected. Course subjects and topics may vary depending on the needs of the academic department. The successful applicant will contribute to our growing undergraduate research program, and is expected to help with improving the program within the department including further development of lab and teaching resources, curriculum development, and application for academic accreditation and certification programs (i.e. ABET , ACCE , OSHA ).

Educational Requirements for the Position (Faculty Positions Only):

An earned Masters, Doctorate degree or ABD in Industrial Safety Management, Occupational Health and Safety, Safety and Environmental Sciences & Management, Safety Engineering, or other closely related fields. Desired areas of interest include safety laws, regulations, and standards, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, pollution controls, and safety in chemical/construction industries. Excellent communication skills are required. Applicant must have a strong commitment to undergraduate education and interdisciplinary collaboration. Industrial working or college teaching experiences are preferred.
