Leidos is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manufacturing Engineer 2nd shift to join our Mechanical Manufacturing team in Huntsville, AL, to support operations in our precision machining environment. This engineer will be responsible for Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) activities, shop floor technical support, and manufacturing process development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in build-to-print machine shop environments and experience supporting CNC machining, assembly, and process improvement initiatives. This role requires strong communication skills to ensure seamless collaboration between first and second shift teams, including machinists, engineers, and leadership.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on technical support to machinists and operators on the shop floor, ensuring smooth production flow.

  • Lead Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA) efforts, analyzing issues, implementing solutions, and driving process improvements.

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing process plans, work instructions, and Solumina process documentation.

  • Support non-conformance resolution, including MRB (Material Review Board) actions and rework planning.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize cycle times, quality, and cost.

  • Assist with manufacturing troubleshooting, addressing issues related to tooling, fixtures, programming, and machining processes.

  • Collaborate with CNC programmers, weld engineers, quality engineers, and production control to support operational goals.

  • Manage manufacturing bill of materials (MBOM) and ensure alignment with engineering specifications.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards in all manufacturing processes.

  • Provide technical mentorship.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field) with 4 years minimum experience OR equivalent education and experience in a manufacturing engineering role.

  • Experience in a precision machining, build-to-print machine shop environment.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with experience in RCCA, corrective actions, and process troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and engineering drawing interpretation.

  • Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) such as Solumina.

  • Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, tooling, workholding, and process optimization.

  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook) for documentation, reporting and data analysis.

  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.

  • Ability to work independently and make critical decisions in a fast-paced production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen initiatives.

  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD software for fixture and tool design.

  • Experience with Siemens NX, Surfcam, or other CAM software for machining support.

  • Experience in the aerospace industry.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00
